Well to be honest, I would quite like to see a few games priced out of the range of kids.

Anyone here think Fallout 3 is going to have all the mature elements of fallout 1 and 2? Of course not, partly because they will be aiming for a teen/mature rating, trying to avoid the 18+/AO rating and the reduced market share that follows.

If pricing helps reduce the cost of maturity on a developer then, sure I'd pay more.

There is no such thing as a game out of the price range of kids because they don't buy the games, their parents do. The only thing that MIGHT curb annoying whiny pre-teens in video games is the current generation of game-literate people paying more attention than their parents did.

I wouldn't pay more than 90 dollars. 90 dollars Australian, that is. That's how much a new release generally costs.

I wouldn't be willing to pay any more than what I already pay for my console games (Up to 60$ US) - With the exception being those like Rock Band and Guitar Hero where you're extra money goes towards a unique game-play experience.

Games don't need a 'luxury' subset to make up for the lack of quality games. Having a polished, fun, and non bug-ridden game is something I except of any game I purchase, be it Xbox Live Arcade games at $10 or full-price games like Bioshock. I don't think anyone should have to pay a premium just for the sake of having something that fulfills those requirements.

How come there is no option below 40? That seems a little high for a singleplayer game... I would just wait until the damn thing goes down to 20 on amazon.

willing to pay up to 70 dollars I think. Must say I'm a pc gamer.
Same. Assuming it really was an awesome game, like, a game I was drooling over and just HAD to have. In fact if that was the case I might even pay more. It really depends on how awesome the title is. There's a funny math involved in desirability and price point of specialty items.

I think the main problem with this is that games as a medium just aren't meant for specialty markets. If a company makes a game that good, why on earth would they not just release it for a regular price and sell three times as many units? Especially when their game is going to be sitting on a shelf next to 500 games that cost less.

For me, I'm willing to pay up to £35.00 (what is that, ~US$70?) for a good game

However, I am generally loath to pay more than £25 at the most. Largely because I'm not sure what a game is like before buying (partially because online demos can be too large for me to download).

I feel I also look for different things than most reviewers. Having been the not-so-proud owner of an ancient system (until recently, when I finally bothered to build a new one), I got used to looking at storyline, interestingness and length. But that's just me.

On a related note. When I saw the thread title I thought it me any single player game (that is, rather then specifically newer ones). This struck a cord with me. Because I have been looking to buy Planescape: Torment (a classic that I had foolishly donated to Oxfam). Checking round the place it seems the average asking price is in the region of £25. In principle I have no problem with that amount of money...

... if it were going to Black Isle or whoever. But for some reason I cannot justify spending that much when the original producers of the game aren't receiving a penny. Though I suppose that could be topic for another thread.

I've noticed that there are plenty of classic games like that too, so it isn;t alone. Makes me feel bad I chucked most of them :(

PS. Hello everyone.

To me, the definition of a luxury game would be something like Steel Battalion or Guitar Hero; a simulator game where you actually are paying for the extra features (e.g. a steering wheel or force feedback codpiece). With the current state of at least the US dollar, demanding that we pay $60 for a game that should have the bugs worked out without the extra 10 Washingtons is tantamount to retardation.

P.S. If I like a game but I hear that there's a lot of bugs in it, I make a point not to buy it.

I agree. But, there are certain kinds of games, like 2D CRPGs (Fallout, Baldur's Gate), that companies don't make anymore simply because they're not profitable. They cost so much to make, so in order to be profitable, they need to appeal to wider audiences. That's great for widening the market, but it's not so good for us old timers, cuz to us, the game is "dumbed down." So how much would you pay for a non-dumbed down 2D CRPG (assuming you are one of the "old timers").

How much would you pay if the old Black Isle team got back together to make a non-dumbed down, true-to-spirit Fallout 3?

I don't single player games, I leave that to consoles... My reason is because I get bored very very fast playing single player, so I always just end up cheating at it (not much fun game play after that)...
I buy games that at least include a good multiplayer ex: HL2 (and I never even bothered to play HL2, but I have DoD Source, etc....)
