Poll: How Often Do you Call Someone "Sir"?

When I'm writing formal letters/emails. Thats's the only use for "sir" I have.
I'd probably use it more if I worked somewhere where being polite to the public was important.

Daily, I address my male teachers as "sir" and I've gotten into the habit of addressing all men as "sir". If I do it online then it's in jest.

Rarely. Ive only called one person Sir in the past five years and thats the local pigs aka the police. Have to be overly polite so they dont search you/kick your head in. Just have to think at the back of your mind every time you use the word sir that your saying "Scumbag".

I think deferring to people is silly, because why should someone stupider than me be warranted respect when I'm not? The nerve!

Also, if they ARE smarter than me then chances are they don't care about being called sir.

I used to say it to the teachers, howvever I rarely do it now even as I work in a supermarket. I usually say 'the customer' or 'the gentleman'. I only say sir or miss to get a customers attention when I need to engage then in conversation.

I am expected to either remember the names of all my male teachers at school, or call them sir. I call them sir, so i say sir a lot
