As the title says, I'm wondering how often you have to ignore something or someone on here. I know I can't be the only one who has just gotten so annoyed at someone on here I had to close the tab to prevent myself from flipping out and earning myself a visit from the mighty banhammer. Possible examples of times you would have done this could be seeing a particularly ignorant person arguing some hot topic, or having someone directly attacking you for your opinion(s).

Personally, I'm probably sitting around 4-6 times a week.

Yes, I made this thread because I just saw a post so ignorant and inconsiderate I could not respond it in full without letting my frustration bleed into my post.

EDIT: I didn't realise there was any formal "block" or "ignore" functions on this forum. My post was intended to mean individuals and their posts in a given thread, not a particular individual at a global level.

Well...hard to say. There is an awful lot of really really stupid and hateful stuff I don't feel I have the spoons to argue against, but I normally come up with a rationalisation for not doing it rather than admit I'm ignoring them if I don't respond.

I never respond to any one who quotes me. 1. I'm not a good debater/arguer. 2 My opinions not going to most likely change, its going to come down to use batting the same points back and forth. Its just a waste of time really. That and I don't want to go off the handle and make my argument invalid.

I would probably have 3k post now if everything I'd ever typed out, ready to post, had been posted. It's the remarkable thing about the internet you have time to think before you speak, though I'm sure I annoy as many people as I am annoyed by. Opinions.

Pretty much... never. In addition to the fact that I hate putting people on some kind of ignore list as a matter of principle, I have never disliked someone enough to want to do that. And even if I did dislike them... I probably wouldn't ignore them unless they had absolutely nothing to say that was worth paying any attention to.

Any time I feel as if posting would lead to a flame war or I'm angry and that's my reason for posting, I don't. That means sometimes ignoring people quoting to respond to my post as nothing good can come from replying to it or simply stopping an argument with someone cold by not posting anything more on the thread. It happens quiet a bit but I deal with it.

There are cases where I decide to leave a post alone because it's not worth my time. It was either something somebody said to make the collective IQ drop, or the conversation isn't going to go ANYWHERE, or even just...I couldn't think of a good punchline. It happens.

Can't really tack a number to it, though. Do you count your belches over the course of a dsy? How many times do you snap your finger an hour, on average? Does it matter how many diet colas you've ever drank in life? Likely, no. It's not something you really pay attention to. Yup, it's ignored.

I'd say I reply about 75% of the time I'm quoted, giving up only when there isn't much discussion value, the quotes continue to blow it out of proportion, or it's a stupid thread to begin with.

Pretty much every day I completely ignore posts now. Don't know whether that's because the post quality has declined or I'm just becoming more cynical. I think R&P is particularly bad at the minute, but should get better soon.

All the time, I just don't fancy getting into it with a fanboy or I'd start a quote war.

I never do, partly because I mostly prefer reading peoples opinions and don't feel like going into flame wars with people who are usually smarter then me. Putting people on ignore would drown out the more interesting posts.

No. I think it stems from my tendency to stick out an argument until the end. And by the end I mean that the person im arguing with leaves, agrees with me, or persuades me to their side. Usually I arrive at a compromise, where we both agree we got some parts wrong. I argue a lot with my brother.... it can take hours for us to finish. But you learn some fun stuff! :D
Like figuring out freedom of will exists due to quantum physics (at least i think it's quantum physics).

When I do ignore someone it's mainly because I'm tired.

I tire easily of discussions.

There's only one fellow on the forums that infuriates me to that degree though the ignore function here puts the posts in a sort of spoiler tag which is tremendous.

Depending on the topic really, I do love a good debate, but only one I wish to partake in. If for example it's the whole "Twilight haters vs the Twilight fans" I really would just tell them fuck off and move on XD.

I do stand by one rule though.......: "I never get involved in politics"

I don't have anyone on block on this forum.
Though if I read a thread I find interesting and while scrolling come across the two or three Escapists I particularly try to avoid getting into a conversation with I leave the thread without posting.

Do I ignore when I am quoted, depends on what the response is, if its completely asinine or off topic, or a response merely to irritate the shit out of me I ignore it.

I use the ignore button. If I see your posts are consistently not worthy of reading (borderline trolling or a grammatical nightmare), I'll just go ahead and ignore you for good. If you always use some headache of a font color, I will do so as well.

As far as just ignoring single posts: Yeah, I do it often.

Whenever I see a really stupid argument, an obvious troll, people who have no idea what they're talking about, someone who refuses to argue civilly, an argument that's already been made in the thread, or a repulsive point of view that isn't worth investigating further, I just ignore it.

I never use the ignore button though.
