Possible answers:
1. Pretty often actually. Like 7/10 times. There are a lot of gems in there and if you know what you doing it turns out to be a good deal.
2. Half of the time. If I see an old classic like Crysis, or Myst I get it right away, but I have also collected a dozen of crap, or good games that I don't really want to play.
3. Rarely. And even if I pick a good game, I rarely enjoy it because I can't get used to its updated graphics and game-play mechanics.
4. It's all a matter of luck at the end. I just buy a cheap game hoping to have fun.

Let me tell a story (it's sort of a long one so go to the bathroom or grab a snack now)

A long time ago (about 10 years now) I found a game in a bargain bin called Robopon 2: Ring Version for the GBA. I didn't know what it was, but it looked neat. Upon playing it, it was one of the most interesting, fun and funny RPGs I'd played in a long time, with some great selection and customization of the robots.

Do you know what name was on the box for that game? "Atlus" a company I'd never heard of before, but you can bet your ass I'd remember it. (Of course now I know Atlus just published it, they didn't develop it. But who cares?)

About a year later I saw another game in a store called DemiKids: Light Version, also with the name Atlus on it (this one actually was developed by them lol) and remembering how much I liked Robopon, I picked it up.

I didn't know it until about 3 years later when I was playing Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army, but that was my very first MegaTen game, which over recent years has become my favorite gaming franchise.

So basically, it was a bargain bin game that eventually lead to me discovering my favorite series, making three very successful webcomics based on them with thousands of readers, and basically helping to mold me into the gamer I am today.

Also I found Shadow of the Colossus in a bargain bin and I'm glad I picked it up ^^

I rarely pick up a game from the bargain bin. If I ever do, it's because it's a rare game. The last bargain I got was The Movies.

There's just so much crap, it's hardly worth the effort of going through it all.

My frequent problem with the bargain bins around here is that they aren't bargains at all. Stickering random (and bad) 360, PS3 and Wii games you couldn't move off the shelf when they were new with a $20 tag is not a bargain. As such, I rarely buy games from it.

Quite often because I pick those I know of, but that still hinges on "good for it's price".
Like sports games, fighting games, dynasty warriors,... they are ok but they do not have content worth more then $10.

Same here. I suppose the Platinum releases are the equivalent of bargain games. In 1999 I bought two of these Platinum games: Final Fantasy VII and Tomb Raider. After that I would change as a gamer for ever.

Ahhh back when game stores used to do that.... hmmm I remember picking up Warcraft 3 in a bin. Wasn't disappointed, Had a few bad ones too...

I'm the sort of person who is really anal about completion though so one game can actually last me a whole half a year if it's done right... I don't pick up many now. So much to do.

Ummm, the games I can think of that I picked out of the bargain bin recently are:

Wolfenstein - which I liked in a campy B movie way
Vanquish - didn't finish
Silent Hill 2 & 3 - for $20 ... :D
Army of Two 2 - bought it for the multi, played it once
Dead Rising 2 - worth it, I like zombies
Alan Wake - sooooooo worth it

And the best games I've just bumped into with little to no idea about them before hand are:

Bioshock
& Shadow of the Colossus

Best. Purchases. Ever.

As often as I can.

But seriously, I do it as often as I can. If something catches my eye in thou bin; it's mine if it's less than a £5.

I bought supreme commander from the bargain bin and I still think that's one of the best RTSes I've ever played.
In fact, some of the best games I own are bargains while some of the worst, I paid full price for.

About 50/50 most of the time. I do often know what is good, but sometimes what I think will be good turns out to be... not. It ends up being a 50/50 split between the really good stuff and the bland or otherwise uninteresting stuff I have found in the ol' BB. I rarely ever (I can only think of like 1 time) buy games I know absolutely nothing about.

I've had decent pickings. Lost Planet 1 and two for Xbox, Medal of Honor: Airborne for xbox, and Swordcraft: Summon Night for the GBA.

I've loved all of them

Considering I buy almost all my games used or at a bargain price I would say almost always, but I've never actually seen them in bargain bins so to speak.

One. I've picked only one game I've actually liked in this way. It turned out to be my favorite game of all time, Steambot Chronicles, but that was the ONLY time I've ever gotten a good game this way.

I pretty much just buy out of the bargain bin, that way if it's crap I can use for target practice.

I bought Final Fantasy Adventure at gamestop on a whim for 99 cents.

It's a fantastic game that regularly goes for around $100 on eBay. Best bargain ever =D

I picked up Mass Effect the other day for £5 second hand from Game. I just checked, and it's double that on Steam, so that's a win for me! Game has a great second hand selection, even for PS2 games. I'll miss it when it inevitably dies on its arse.
