Me and my brothers got given a SNES when I was about 6 (so older bro was 7 or 8, younger 4 or 5) by some friends who didn't want theirs anymore, so I've been a gamer for as long as I can remember.

Since then we've got a Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, GBA, GBA SP, DS, N64, Wii, PC (and upgraded it twice), Dreamcast, PS and a PS2.

Edit: I actually played my first game when I was a bit younger. My Dad had just got a new PC with Windows 95 on it and we all played Hover. Good times...

I started at age 6, on my cousin's brand new Atari 2600.
I started playing A LOT at 10 or 11, on my mom's Apple II+ with a monochrome monitor. Good times.

I think I played my first game on the Amiga 500 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga] computer back when I was three or four years old. I did most of my early gaming on that system, before finally switching to a PC in the mid 90s.

Between 4 and 9, although I can't remember exactly when. We had an Amiga and C64 in our house, so I spent many happy hours on Impossible Mission 2, Cannon Fodder and James Pond. Oh, and Space Crusade, with its dirty cheating bastard AI.

They were simple times... happier times, when you couldn't play a game if you'd lost the manual, and had to wait five minutes for things to load.

I was like, 2 or something. I always sat on my dad's lap watching him play Battlefield. Soon enough, I was a master Helicopter flier and taking the role of air support.

I also enjoyed an old looking computer system, but I don't know what it was called. It used these big cartridges... we sold it like forever ago... I always wished I knew what it was... it had horrendous graphics and my favourite game on it was actually a text adventure

I got a Sega Genesis at four years old as well, and thus was saved from rabid nintendo fanboyism, and am able to see through the copy and paste job that is nintendos main franchises. Haven't played a zelda since a link to the past, nor a mario since super mario world. :p

I'm curious how old various people are when they get into gaming.
Busting Smurfs and Pong on the Caleco vision at 8. But that's pretty young, it's different for me as I'm older
Gaming wasn't as prevalent as it is now.

About three. Thank you Sega Genesis.
This for me as well. Ah, I've fond memories of evenings spent playing Sonic (before they became rubbish).

3, in 1983 on a ZX Spectrum 48k.
Exact same for me, although '85 and Elite marked the first real personal experience. Only played with my big brother before -- was his computer.
