Yeah, I don't think this is a valid "race card" here. The DJ was just trying to keep most of the people entertained. Would the music have been enjoyed by the whole party? I don't know. The OP said in an edit that it was salsa music, so I doubt many would have enjoyed it. I'd say that this is a case of not being able to satisfy everyone all the time, so it's better to satisfy most of the people most of the time.
Personally, I hate most rap music and country music, but every bar I've ever gone to plays one of those or the other. How happy do you think that makes me? Still, I go to hang out with friends and try to have a good time.
If this guy wanted to listen to his music so bad, he could have listened to it somewhere else. Like his house, his car, anywhere else. Or got others at the party to ask the DJ to play just one song. If a few different people had asked for it, they would have proved the DJ wrong.
