So I decided to start this thread because frankly I would like some advice, my computer admittedly sucks (anything Source related just kills my computer), I can run older games and low processing games no problem (Most MMOs run at a good frame rate on medium setting), but the moment I try to boot up anything graphically intense my computer just goes haywire (case and point L4D2), the audio gets distorted, the framerate runs as smooth as sandpaper, and generally my computer slows to a crawl. I hope to god the graphics card I get for Christmas alleviates this enough for me to play games, I would like to know, how well does YOUR PC handle games?

Edit: sorry it say poll, I forgot to uncheck the box before hitting post

My desktop runs them pretty well. A 3 ghz Core 2 Duo processor, 4 gigs of RAM, and an Nvidia 260 GTX will do that, though.

Well, if you need advice, I'm sure we've got people, including myself, on the Escapist who might be willing to help you out.

As to the question itself, my PC handles games incredibly well, as it should considering I built it myself and fleezed out the old wallet to make sure it'll last for two centuries... (in part because I'm an eye-candy whore)

I can run all the games I own on the highest setting and still run at around 40 fps. My PC is a beast! :D (Starcraft 2, TF2, Crysis, and many others)

I'm really surprised that my laptop runs most games well on full graphics...only except for full graphics in farcry 2 It was a little slow

I can run Mass Effect 2, L4D2 and Metro 2033 on the highest setting without lag. Not bad for a laptop. It's a shame that my broadband speed is pathetic.

I just got a new computer built with really good specs so I can run pretty much anything at high quality right now

Mine is a monster. QX9650 @3.8Ghz 4Gb of DRR2 1066 RAM and a ATI 4890 on a 1080 monitor. It will do me until after the launch of Sandybridge and Fusion and the die shrink and probable new sockets that will come with those. I'll think about upgrading then... maybe...

My desktop shreds all games, including Crysis on maxed out settings.

i-7 920 Quad Core
3 GB DDR3 RAM
2 Terrabyte Hard Drive
And my pride and joy...
NVidia GeForce GTX 480, 1536 MB GDDR5

Unfortunately, that's back home. I'm stuck with my ASUS M60J laptop in Aussie. Still powerful, but can no way hold up to my desktop.

Me trying the Lost Planet 2 Benchmark.

Wierdly enough, I can run Crysis, settings all max and no lag.

Though that wasn't DX11 like the Benchmark is.

I'm running some cheap, strange hardware on my end; Starcraft II just barely squeaks by on "Low" settings.

Mostly because I have this P.O.S.:

It's a P4 board that runs at 2.4 Ghz max, with 3 slots for (get ready for this) SDRAM. The old, slow shit.

I need to get my hands on around $400 in spare cash to upgrade to a Dual core 3.02 Ghz Wolfdale on an Asrock DualVSTA, with around 2-3 Gb of top-speed DDR3.
