To look better, i was kind of fat as a kid. And since i cant get slim i'm going for becoming muscular instead. To be able knock the lights out of/intimidate people who try to mess with me feels great to.

Plus i get huge endorphin kicks for the whole day after working out, so what's not to love?

Mmm, put the top three together. I absolutely LOVE football (soccer)... I'm super happy with how I look, and playing sport all the time will help keep it that way, and fitness, yeah, my chosen career path requires a pretty good level of physical competency. But yeah, I certainly don't see it as a chore of any sort. I love doing it, and it certainly has it's benefits. =)

This is pretty similar to that thread about working out/going to gyms that was up yesterday.

Anyway; I don't work out or exercise at all. I'm only 66kg (145 lb) despite being over 1.9m (6'2) tall. I'm not interested in building up muscle though. I'm very content with my image/shape.

"To lose weight / look better"
Along with "To get in shape".

I've however gone by this method in a very very bad way as I've been starving myself pretty much since December.
While that is by the general definition terrible, it's the only thing that actually worked for me.

I've gone down from 110kg to 94kg in 3 months time. Not only is that a rather healthy weightloss time, it's also as I said, the only thing that actually worked for me. Now, I only need to loose 30 kg more to reach my ideal weight then I can start to get in shape and change my habits more.

Also, you have no idea how good it is to have gone from 3 numbers to 2 numbers.
I feel for you. I can still remember how good I felt when I started to have a glimpse of my abs. Ultimately, that is why we all work out : to make ourselves fit and feel good about ourselves.

The only way to lose weight is to eat less calories than maintenance. About 500 cal less than maintenance, with the aim to lose about 1-2 lbs per week.

26kg in 3 months, however, is a lot. The problem, if you lose weight too fast, is that you lose muscle mass as well. That is why resistence-training is important, so that your muscles remain sollicitated and that the brain remembers that they are still needing to grow, and so release growth hormones to help maintain them.

As for cardio, no need to have 30-minutes sessions. Do sessions of 10-12 minutes, but with punctual bursts of sudden activity so that your heart starts pumping. Walking-running is good for that.

I don't do a lot of working out because I despise gyms, but I'm pretty active and probably well above your average student, so I can't say i feel much of a need to either.

I see that most of the people here have an (not necessarily big) obesity problem. I have the opposite - my metabolism is ridiculously fast, and if I don't work out, I end up looking like someone stretched a tiny bit of skin over a skeleton. So I work out to have something between the skeleton and the skin and not look like a camouflaged undead.

I eat around at max, 1200 kcal / day. Considering my height, I pretty much in theory loose 0.2 - 0.3 kg / day because of this.
So I don't really lose weight too fast. 16 kg over 3 months is actually quite ideal in terms of weight loss.
Coupled with taking a 40-60 min walk every 2nd to 3rd day.
Seems good! I take you drink a lot of water as well?

I eat around 1700 kcal / rest day, 2200 kcal / training day. Training 3 days per week (weight training + 10-12 min cardio). It's calculated so that I lose a little muscle mass as possible.

I lost weight very fast (about 4-5 lbs per week) the first two weeks, and now it's settling around the 0.2-0.3 lbs per day.

I'm naturally a wiry guy (175cm/65kgs)... so it's sort of to bulk up and sort of to get some exercise. And since most of the time I'm hitting things, it's kinda fun, too.

I play tennis competitively, and being faster, stronger, or just more in shape than the other person is a pretty big advantage. I don't pump steel or anything because it slows reflexes, but I do simple things like push ups, pull ups, tricycles, bicycles, jump rope, stuff like that. I also do a lot of conditioning things like suicides, agility ladder, spider drills, ect. It's such a great feeling to be in shape, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Plus it's nice to win too XD

Just for the fuckin' fun!

I'm a hobby cyclist. Ride Crosscountry, Downhill, Street and a tiny bit of dirt. I just love the sport, so when I get in better shape, it's just a huge plus...

But I do need to work on my upper body strength, kinda want to beef myself up since I can't get much thinner. Also, I want to have the awsomeness of a muscle-paced body... As of now, I only have enormous, strong, legs...

Start grinding Hindu squats (Bethaks) and run every day.
Try the Couch to 5k runner's plan. It'll get you off the couch and work you up to doing a 5K in only 9 Weeks. Also, work on your flexibility, as it will decrease risk of injury and increase your overall agility. Pavel Tsatsouline has the best advice about flexibility and has a routine available called Super Joints, which given what often happens to wrestlers as they age, wouldn't be a bad idea to start doing.
Thanks for the tips. I'll look into it.

Gah, I want to, but I'm sooo lazyyy... why exercise when you can sleep all day.
This. I'm not overweight, and I look decent enough; I can't really motivate myself to exercise really.
I have the same problem. Weight wise, I'm very much healthy. At least, according to what I see in the mirror. The most I do is walk everywhere, sometimes for an hour or two a few times a week.

I just do it for fun/to keep in shape. I'm not a bigger person by any means but I wouldn't mind building up muscle mass. Sadly though I have a really hard time getting into weights, but I love to run.
