As long as it doesn't happen tomorrow, then I don't really care. Eventually it will have to happen - Blu-Ray beat out HD-DVD, so odds are that it's going to be the next disc-storage format of the future. Eventually, games will all move to Blu-Ray. I'm just hoping that it's 3 to 4 years away, so that Blu-Ray disc readers come down significantly in price.

PC Games wouldn't really make a difference? Blu Ray gives more disc space sure, but we are still innstalling games to the PC and running them from there! Only movies would be affected by blue ray as they don't need to comprerss the films so much yielding better quality.

Fuck that shit. I don't want to pay $350.00 to get a disc drive that reads data with a blue laser, which (allegedly) provides an improved picture and better sound quality. I've yet to see a difference between an average DVD and a Blu-Ray movie.

Until the games start actually NEEDING blu ray there is no reason to switch to them.

The amount of space on a DVD has not become a problem for PC games yet because of compression. MGS4 utilized a high amount of it's blu-ray disc because they stored everything uncompressed to help with load times. PC games do not have this problem because the entirety of the game will be installed on your hard drive, allowing all content to be compressed on the disc.

A blu-ray player can cost that much, but a blu-ray drive for a PC costs around $60. For comparison, a PC CD/DVD-combo burner costs around $20-$25.

I don't care. I mostly buy games from Steam or D2D, and my PC already has a blu-ray burner in it, so not like I'd have to spend more money or anything...

I bought my blu-ray BURNER (more expensive) from Best Buy (again, more expensive than it would have been getting it online) a year ago (so, again, they're cheaper now), and it was $200.

I use digital distribution for the majority of the games I buy, but I wouldn't really care. I really see no downside to it. Blu-Ray drives are not that expensive anymore (I can find some for about £40) and the devs can pack more content onto the disk. It might hike prices of physical media games up some more, but as previously mentioned there's a likely chance of more content as well, so a fair trade of.

I put that I don't like it. Reason being, I think optical media on PC should generally just be put away. I rarely ever use my DVD drive as it is, other than to play older games I have. I almost exclusively buy PC games online these days so in effect, DVD or BluRay wouldn't affect me in terms of how I aquire my games but it would most likely increase the cost of games, because it seems that for the most part they price games the same for the physical version and the digital version, and BD discs are more costly than DVD discs.

You can't be serious. BD movies are much higher resolution. However to actually notice the difference you need HDMI and an HDTV supporting 1080p (not 1080i or 720p). The difference, to me, is massive.

Sony's been using the format long enough and seemingly neither they nor the general blu-ray producing companies out there have any clue what to do with the technology. Blu-ray discs can hold almost 10 DVD's and yet boxed sets still come on multiple blu-ray discs. So why would any reasonable person think they'd do any better/worse on PC?

Since most of my PC games now come via Steam, this wouldn't be much of an issue.

Edit: ...thinking about it, if games do start using BR discs, then I think I would have to upgrade my internet connection to deal with the ballooning download size. So I'm slightly opposed.
What this guy said, though if the game was giving me more content I wouldnt mind waiting.

Until most games that come out need the kind of space it has, I don't think it's going to be needed. Also until most PCs out there have the drives, software companies are not going to care since well, there's no one to buy them. Outside of game compilations that ether have many games or the game with what was DLC, one or two DVDs tend to be enough to get it to the consumer.

If our games start hitting like 20GB installed, excluding expansions... I can see a need for the move.
Napoleon: Total War.
20.9GB installed.

Now, I wouldn't really mind seeing games in Blu-Ray. I own a Blu-Ray player for our HDTV and I have a 37" 1080p monitor so paying $60 for a PC Blu-Ray drive really wouldn't be that bad, although I do buy most of my games off of steam.

Except Fallout: New Vegas. I waited outside Best Buy for that *****. :)

I buy my games on Steam, so this wouldn't really affect me.

If most PC games don't already start switching over to Steams digital platform, then sure, I've got no problem with it.
More space for more game. Thanks, Blu-Ray. <3
