Woo, i'm the first to say "Other".

Anyway, humanity... let's face it, we are anything but well adapted. I'm betting on the term "Humanity" getting heavily redefined by way of genomics and cybernetics. What i'm saying is - there will be intelligent entities descended from us on earth. Will they be what we would currently call "human", i'm not sure.

I give the planet 5 billion years. As for the human race...I can't see them lasting more than another 1000 tops, not with all the stupid shit we do.

EDIT: And 1000 is just generosity on my part

In 2012 World of Wacraft will be free which results into total human extinction.

I chose maybe. Its quite possible for us to survive a whole lot longer, but its also possible for civilization as we know it to end more or less over night...There is a saying in my country: He who lives, will see.

What? We are the most well adapted species that has ever lived on this planet.

Look around you. This is OUR work, OUR world, built with OUR hands. Nothing else alive is capable of what we do.

And I seriously doubt we're ever going to dick around in our genome short of genetics repair. We aren't going to be modding ourselves (Did you play too much Prototype?).

I don't think so. With the environmental damage we've caused, the Ozone Layer/Global Warming, chances are most of us will be under water within a few decades. All it will take is one huge Hurricane to flood everything once the sea level is high enough from the icebergs that are melting. :/
You watch too much news. We aren't going to drown.

I think we will survive. Why? Because we as a species are stupid and ignorant, yet we are also too stubborn to die.

In some shape or form yes. Even in the event of a huge nuclear war humans will survive, especially as its unlikely that small tribal villages in Africa for instance will be nuked along with the big cities. Even with huge amounts of fallout we'll survive, life'll be shortened by quite a bit, but then its only been in the last 200 years or so that we've consistantly been able to live past the 40 year mark.

I'd have to say that humanity will probably prove even harder to eradicate than cockroaches. So yes, we'll certainly be around in a hundred years.

I think that we might not survive the next 1000 but most likely the next 100.

This is actually an interesting question, especially with as many people that are believing that 2012 is the end of the world. In my personal opinion, it could go either way. Humanity may not have the best track record but we've managed to survive for thousands of years so far. It all really depends on how we handle ourselves now.
2012 seems like absolute bullshit. unless there were people who are working on that. *gives funny looks to u.s military, again* i'm on to you..
Quick, act like you're not thinking! You're pissing them off by acting self-aware!

OT: The Mayans ran out of rock to keep making the calendar goddammit!
My answer is maybe. You can never know what lingers around the corner.

Yes, we built it. Yet we age, get sick from too much sun, get sick from not enough sun, break down mentally from bad diets and a myriad of other things that make us fragile little shits. The most well-adapted species on the planet is, in fact, a strain of bacterium that live on the outer fringes of the atmosphere, get their genetic code blasted apart by radiation routinely and use the same radiation to sustain themselves.

But if we're using intelligent activity as a measurement of adaptation, then yes. We are the most adapted creature here. We are not, however, the most adapted creature possible. There is also no reason for people not to modify themselves and their offspring. The moment it becomes possible and affordable, it will become used.

We will last. Humans refuse to kick the bucket. As a species we will continue to grow. Eventually we will likely make it into space as well. People say we don't evolve anymore and for the most part yeah, its true. Though there are still people who refuse to stop growing and becoming smarter. Physicists, chemists, biologists. They continue to change and grow and challenge the rules that bind our world.

The human race as a species will survive. Like others said our culture in itself will change. Our race as a whole though will not die. After three or four global disasters that our planet have we managed to hump or way back into the dominate species i have a hard time believing now were suddenly going to be wiped out.
Wait what? Which 3 or 4 disasters are we talking about? I feel that I'm missing some crucial information.

also:
Hiroshima blasts had people living till the end of there lives
lol
The three our four global incidents involve the human race getting pounded by meteorite during the extent of our existence on earth. We have been almost forced to extinction several times due to what some people would call an Armageddon. Yet here we are.

And sorry, maybe i should have been more descriptive.

Victims of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki lived to long old ages. Many people who had been badly irradiated and horribly scarred still living into there 60's and 70's.

Yeah, we should be alright for another century. Even after the nukes, someone will survive. Might take several hundred for us to completely die off.

Oh, for the love of God, people have been clamoring about the end of days for centuries. If it's not global warming or the population growth we're so fearing now, it was homosexuality and the lack of human hearts to sacrifice that we feared would be the cause of our supposedly forthcoming demise back in the olden days. Christ, are you kidding? We'll be good for millenia.

Probably - but who knows? An asteroid could drop on the planet tomorrow; barring that, I'd say we have fairly good odds of surviving.

So, there are about 4 instances in which earth has been hit by meteorite storms?
If so, do you have sources?

I was laughing because everyone lives to the end of their life.

lets face it humans don't exactly have the best track record in the universe but we may not be the worst in terms of intelligence, self preservation, technology, etc. today's topic you ask: the human race. what will we be discussing specifically? will we be able to survive the hundred years? (please explain why or why not)
Who else has a better record than us? We shall endure.
