So my girlfriend works at Hot Topic and alerts me of the many hilarious knick-knacks they get in. We both decidedly hate Twilight with a passion and think it's whole display and characteristics of vampires is ruining the whole vampire scene (basically we agree with that one South Park episode). Anyway a while ago she told me about the most ridiculous thing ever. "Twilight wrapping tape." This isn't the fun sexual mummification sexual tape, this is the "Merry Christmas" kind of tape.

She is making money. So is everything else. Despite the population here hating Twilight, it is a cash cow right now.

Any good business person would jump at the chance to make money off something that is popular. Again half the world hates it, half don't.

Pretty soon something else will come along and do it too. Remember when Harry Potter first came out?

It's not either trolling or selling out. "Selling out" refers to the compromising of one's integrity, morality and principles in exchange for money, success or other personal gain. It especially refers to the attempt to increase social appeal or acceptability through this compromising.

I doubt the people do this, whether Meyer herself or just some fat business man at the side, to gain social appeal or acceptability because you guys don't do either one of that. I don;t think it is done because they are desperate either.

It is just Marketing and making money called "Merchandising." Star Wars does it, Star Trek does it, anything that even has popularity does it.

It's all business and nothing more.
