In fact, I don't really see servicepeople as anything other than hired thugs trained to kill at the command of the government. That's what any military is, including that of the United States, my home country.
A stupidly high percentage of the military has no combat ability or experience, and came in because:

1.) No job.
2.) No college money.
3.) Plea bargain in court.
4.) Fast-tracked citizenship for immigrants.

Really.

"Hired thugs" is gross misrepresentation the reality of military culture.

Your opinion right now is pretty cool with angsty counter-culture though, so if you're trying to land some points with that crowd I see no point in you deviating.

Ah, angsty-counter-culture...a subculture all in itself. Irony is a beautiful thing, no?

P.S This thread died for a reason. Let sleeping zombie-dogs lie.

I...I...GOD DAMN! I honestly don't know what the fuck to say. I've always been a supporter of "Everyone has an opinion" idea but honestly man, The fuck? The way I see it war is bad I suppose but its something that will always be there and if you don't like that, then feel free to go on a permanent acid trip and chill on your couch until you die, you will be none the wiser, I promise. That being said I respect anyone who has the stones to be willing to die to protect their country and it's inhabitants, which by the way includes you. So to sum it up I suppose we could try your idea of no more "hired thug" military and just let chaos ensue, sure Pacifism is great but as it's been said, it only works if EVERYONE puts down their guns, and there will ALWAYS be some that, don't simple as that. I find it odd that this thread is getting to me as much as it is, I hear stuff like this every day but dear god this is really pissing me off for some reason. Do I see them all as "heroes" per' se'? No. No I don't, I see them as people as myself, but I give them the respect that they deserve. I'm currently waiting for a close cousin to return from Iraq so maybe that's clouding my judgement, but ya know what? I don't really give a damn. I'm not saying you have to worship the military, nor am I saying that you have to support them, but god dammit the least you could do is show some respect, they earned it.

Edit: Ok so MOST have earned it, not all.
