Poll: I don't like Firefly....

Ask most convention goers and gamers what Firefly is and you'll get a gushing response about "The best show on TV that ended too soon."

The show has an almost religious following among some, and nearly anyone you meet will fill your ears with praise, and mourning for it's cancellation.

Everyone but me.

I hated that show.

...and I've gotten some very very shocked, and nearly vile reactions from people for saying so.

I watched three episodes and turned it off. I just didn't see how it got such a cult following.Sure the premise was kinda neat...but personally I wanted to punch the main guy (I forget his name) in the face. He just didn't jive with me....hell most of it didn't jive with me.

I don't see where all the worship comes from.

Am I some kinda weird alien brain freak for not liking, 'the best show ever'?

Hmm, it's a shame. I just started watching it yesterday and while it's not my favourite show (Monty Python's Flying Circus will always hold that title), it's very entertaining and I love watching it.

Well Joss Whedon has a very polarizing effect on people, and that's because he doesn't cater to anyone when he creates his stories. I love Firefly, but couldn't stand Buffy or Angel.

I know it's been drummed enough around here, so let me kick that dead horse one more time.

Personally I love the series, but I don't expect everyone to feel the same way. And the hype that show gets from fans can ruin it for some even before they watch a single episode.

Nothing wrong with disliking something everyone else likes, but damn, you're the first person I've heard say that. Literally everyone I've shown the show to loves it, and everyone those people have then shared it with also love it.

Ok before we go any further...this is an opinion poll and opinion post.

What I'm tying to get at is that Firefly seems to have a universal worship among gamer and geek culture...however I have always felt a bit left of center for 'not' liking the show.

I wanted to know if anyone else felt that way.

It's alright... I thought it was kind of fun. I don't care that it was cancelled though...

Beyond checking the 'you freak!' option, all I can say is *meh*...

I liked it for its humanity, as far as sci-fi series are concerned, as it didn't try to be anything other than smugglers-in-space with storylines that are sort of relevant regardless of era.

If anyone disagrees with me, I let them... after getting the reasons for why. I have my opinion, you have yours, we agree to disagree, I dislike Stargate, Babylon 5, DS9, X-Files & a host of other such series, but am perfectly willing to allow people I know to wax lyrical about why they like it... within reason, of course.

I never sat down to watch it. I saw the movie thing they did "Serenity" and thought it was a bit shit but that may be because I didn't really know the characters or anything.

I don't think you are a freak. I actually did not think that the show was all that and a can of beans like everyone says. It was just okay. It could have gotten better if they let it go on for longer, but they didn't, so it is was just okay. Honestly, Buffy was better by far (well, the first 4 seasons of Buffy anyway. Season 5 was crap).

I only saw a few episodes of Firefly. They weren't bad as such, IIRC, just not worthy of further viewing.

Serentiy the movie was ok the first time, but the second time it really dragged. It didn't help that I'd seen the main guy play the exact same character in Castle...only this time he's a writer that helps the police and painfully fails to be funny, instead of an ex-military space cowboy smuggler.

Seriously though, anyone who thinks someone is a freak for not liking something they like should go jump in a fire, we can do without you!
