ANTLIONS!
We had trouble with a nest of those flying things in the cracks between the paving stones in the backyard last year. I boiled a full kettle of water and poured it over them, then repeated. Dealt with them nicely.
The thing it's not just in my backyard, it's in the backyard, front yard, on the sidewalk, and across the street (and other places I can't seem to find). It's not just taking out a few nests, it's taking out nests that seem to pop up out of nowhere.
Texas has year round problems with ants, so much so it was actually winter, not summer that they knocked out our phone lines and internet in my old apartment by chewing through the wires in the box.. like something straight out of a scifi horror.. the ants took out communications before they attacked..

But to get rid of them though I think they pour a powder maybe Orthene or something on the mounds that kills the queen and they disappear for a while, then sprinkle it around the entire perimeter of the exterior of the house to prevent them from coming in.

I used to say that it's easier to get warmer in the winter than cool in the summer, but as an adult who drives a car I've changed my mind. The heat can be annoying as fuck, however it doesn't even come close to the pain of standing in the snow, in at least -10C, trying to scrape the ice from the windows of the car and no matter the time it's constant, complete darkness.
I'll take dealing with ice over a steering wheel that's practically melting any day of the week, to be honest.

Plus, in the summer heat a car basically just becomes a large, portable oven, and at least here in Vermont there seems to be an overabundance of cars that have sub-par air conditioning and fantastic heaters.

Could you imagine that? You'd go outside and it'd be warm! Even our hottest requires at least a shirt and a t-shirt.
Move to literally anywhere in the US.

I'm in one of the northern-most states and we've already had near a solid week of 30+ C weather, coupled with 70-90% humidity. Thankfully it's cooled off a bit again for this week, but I don't think that bodes very well for what the end of this month/July are going to be like.

You do not have your steering wheel covered? Maybe since I live in Texas, this was just something I thought everyone did. My steering wheel, seats and car are not usually very hot, but I have those all with covers that prevent that and use a Sunshield for the windshield when parking in the sun. That also helps with keeping everything looking new and smelling fresh (Especially helpful when my niece and nephew are in my car throwing popcorn and spilling drinks) since they can be removed and cleaned easily.

I am not a fan of Summer but I have it better for most people because I live 20 minutes away from the beach. Also, summer time = baseball time.

There are a lot of things that we don't do here that are typically done as a rule in hotter/colder places, specifically because we have very wild temperature variation and usually extreme cold/heat don't stick around for longer than a week at a time. Some people will use steering wheel covers, but at least in my experience it's not commonplace (and I honestly don't even know what a sunshield is); by a similar token, basically the only buildings in the state that have any sort of central air conditioning are large stores/corporate buildings. I wouldn't doubt that they exist somewhere, but I don't think I've ever seen a home or apartment building that had central air.

Hospitals of course have heat and air, though I would think not having Heating and air conditioning widely available would be difficult for those patients to go home that have to be kept at around 20C-24C for their health. Certain conditions the patients will need to maintain within certain temperatures or it can become life threatening for them very quickly. Hopefully at least all apartments and homes have access to at least window units.

I'm definitely more of a "cold weather" kind of person. While I'm not super fond of snow (I hate shoveling and driving occasionally becomes very frustrating), I definitely prefer an atmosphere most people would describe as chilly. Too much heat is nasty and direct sunlight tends to make things worse even in low temperatures. Bugs, sweat and heat induced lethargy can all pack up and move to the tropics for all I care.

So I'm the weird guy who likes a breeze on a cloudy day here in Canada.

Only if we buy them ourselves, unless that's what you mean. And actually, in the apartment I currently live in, there's only one window which can actually fit an air conditioning unit, at least without a lot of user-end tweaking.

Yes, in most circumstances one pays for their own air conditioner or heater if it is a portable unit or does not come with the home or apartment. There are circumstances where insurance, medicaid, or charity assistance programs will pay for units if it is deemed medically necessary in most areas. In Texas, for example, they have heating and air conditioning available through charity programs even without it being deemed medically necessary by a physician due to the harsh drastically changing environment here since that is common knowledge that it is necessary. There are deaths every year regardless due to air conditioning going out so it is something that is not really considered optional here.

5 Reasons why I Hate Summer

5. It's fucking hot

Not really into the hot weather, but it's weird how that seems to put me in a minority with where I live

4. Like, seriously, fuck this weather!!!

I remember talking to somebody from France and she just casually mentions that it's regularly 40 degrees (Celsius) where she lives...like, what?

3. It's too fucking hot!

I'm at a constant fight with my family on what the temperature on the thermostat should be. Would it kill people to keep things below 20 (once again, Celsius)

2. It's god damn fucking too hot to fucking to fuck all

Want to do fun activities outside with the family? I generally don't want to, but summer time is definitely the worst time to do it for me which is exactly when people want to do it...

1. Fuck this heat, I'm moving to Canada!

I hope you guys can tolerate someone like me, there's nothing stopping me now.

Also, my allergies get really bad during this time, but...holy crap, it's way too fucking hot for anything -_-

Summer, to me, is a big of a meh.

Pros:
YAY the jacuzzi in our backyard is open!

YAY, we have lots of delicious BBQ suppers! (Double yay because I do the dishes most nights at my house and BBQ means less pots to clean!)

YAY ice cream and lemonade!

Yay no more freezing my butt off, and I can wear my cool gaming t-shirts!

Cons:
WASPS. I hate wasps! AUGH!

Sometimes it gets TOO hot, and I spend most of my time in my room, with various electronics on, which means my room is usually 2-3 degrees hotter then the rest of the house, and I can't open the window to let the heat out. ;_;

I have to mow the lawn every week, which takes an hour, and leaves me sweating like a pig and sometimes sunburned.

That's basically it. More pros than cons, but not by much. It's better than winter, but only just. I like fall a lot more. Cool weather, corn, pretty tree colors, less bugs, etc.

Wow, more people here hate summer than love it. Go figure.

Me, I love summer. When I was a kid, it was mainly because I didn't have to go to school for three months. As an adult... well I still enjoy it. It's nice and warm (speaking as someone who hates cold weather), perfect for outdoor activities.

But that's just me.

Fortunately as a Swede we got neither extreme winters nor summers. Last year I think we had the shittiest summer ever, while central-Europe broke a few heat records. I was actually down in Austria at the time and we had 36C at 9 pm. It was like walking out into a sauna, and I hadn't experienced such heat since I was around six years old and at a family vacation to Mallorca. It felt really good. This year we've already hit ~30C, so who knows what's coming.
South-Central Texan here and I'm sitting at about 36C (Actually 95F because Murica.) right now. It's expected to get even hotter because it's Texas of course it's expected to get even hotter. Strings of days with temps over 100F (And sometimes up to 110F/43C) are pretty common for our summers. Everything worth doing has to be done in the early morning or after sunset, and good luck driving your car if you don't put any sort of cover on it. The city I live in usually sets up water stations for pedestrians and homeless people during the peak months so that they can fight heatstroke, and we live in a nearly constant state of drought (Although this summer and the last one were unusually wet.)

Granted we're supposed to get rain later in the week, which will cool us down a whooping two degrees. And we also tend to have fantastic AC everywhere given that we would literally die without it.

In comparison to winter, it snows maybe once every three or four years - and it's always slushy snow that melts when it hits the ground. We occasionally get freezes but the ice almost always melts by noon (Doesn't stop everything from shutting down though.) and in my twenty years of living here I had to scrape ice off the car window, like, twice. Winter here usually hangs around at 60F/15C, and oftens shoots up into balmy spring-feeling weather.

Those winters in the movies, with like piles of snow and people bundled under a tent of clothing always seemed so weird to me. Here you just put a jacket on and you're good.

There's a video somehere of a guy pouring molten lead into a fire ant nest in Florida.

Thats what they deserve. Fuck ants.

Nah it's fine, I'll whine about the heat but I hate being freezing cold and wet in the dead of winter too, the latter days of summer and sunny spring days are the best medium, but I'd rather get to be warm in the summer than practically dying constantly in the winter.

As for wasps; I've developed a knack for being able to smack them straight to the ground.

SoCal reporting in. Love Summer, hate the heat. Have adapted to sweating my ass off to triple digit temps as needed but otherwise have the central air going full blast constantly. Like Duck Dodgers, I vacation in Palm Springs, but permanently.

Benefits also include the sun being even prettier at sunset.
