theres nothing wrong with the imperial system, and as they all say, if something isn't broken don't fix it.

I've been thinking about this very subject for the past couple days. Weird.

The US is completely backwards in this regard. Switch to metric already, like the rest of the world.
So if the rest of the world were to start slaughtering people....and America was against it....we should join then ;} lets not use peer pressure
Yes, that's a completely fair comparison. :D

In a case like this, it would just save the world so much inconvenience if everyone used one unified system.
so cultures have no right to be different?

If you disagree you clearly hate freedom and are a communist, socialist, or some evil combination of the two.
Mad much that your system is weird?
Oblivious much to the blatantly obvious satire?
Mate, I was trolling aswel.
good times

Okay man, come on. You're just twisting words now, I obviously didn't say that.

Since the US has such an influence on the rest of the world, everybody else is forced to learn two systems just because the US refuses to change. Everybody's aware of the benefits of switching, yet they stubbornly cling to their system for no apparent reason other than "It's the American way".

No one can force them to switch, but I have a right to express my displeasure.
But we dont want to! a bit of "british kids" want us to and we rufuse! Just because one is easier doesn't make it accurate....for hundreds of years we've been using the Imperial System...dont you want to go in and say "HEY WE CHANGED IT IMPERIAL SYSTEM IS GONE" to everyone? It's what we've been learning our whole lives...to change is like getting rid of books and replacing them with those online book ipad things.

I hope this is sarcasm. Otherwise:

What's wrong with socialism (says this Swedish citizen)? And hey, theoretically, communism forms a perfect, utopian society (Albeit a boring one with no real incentive for technological and intellectual development). It's just that no country that has the money to implement it, has tried to (A LOT of money needs to be available to the country, in order for it to work).

EDIT:
OT: I'm just waiting for the whole world to adopt the scientific standard of the metric system. It makes sense, it's interconnected, it's a system that work, and helps you easily work out what's going on.

I wish Britain would pick one or the other. If we buy liquids they're measured in litres (or centilitres and mililitres, more the later for tins of juice and such, continental Europe uses the former more). Buuuut all our distances are in miles and speeds in miles per hour. Weights on food is in grams but people's weight is typically in stone and pounds. Length is in centimetres but height (in regards people) is in feet and inches but we use metres for random height measurements in buildings, or display it along with feet.

It's fucking frustrating. I prefer metric though, imperial measurements are counterintuitive to me.

umm...excuse me? Get a reasonable argument before being angry.
Yes you can use what ever you want, but why bother? Using a system that is outdated and quite confusing is a choice, yes, but is it a sensible one? Not particularly.

Also, when does he say anything about hating freedom? He suggest that the use of the metric system becomes more wide spread. Your putting words into his mouth (or in this case words on his keypad) and not listening to his argument.

I do a lot of thinking in Metric, but my country uses Imperial, so I'm kind of stuck. Unless I want to convert everything into metric, do the math, then convert it back again.

We really should just switch over to Metric.

To be fair britain still isnt completely metric, we still do beer and milk in pints, peoples weight in stone, car speed in mph, but use the superior metric where it is useful, like with temperature in celcius, because using freezing temperature of salt water as a basis for temperature measurement is stupid.

There are 2 situations when I think it becomes even more obvious how bad the imperial system is. Thermodynamics and aviation. Thermo, sometimes you end up with a jumble of units that include lbs of force, lbs of mass, ft-lbs of work, and lbs/in^2 of pressure...which is DUMB. Occasionally when converting from energy to other, more physical things, you have to just throw in a factor of 32.2 for shits.

In aviation, we sadly forced our units upon the rest of the world. This results in a cockpit that has maps in statute miles, altitude in feet, airspeed in nautical miles, windspeed in statute miles per hour, rate of climb/descent in feet per minute, fuel burn in gallons per hour. When trying to plan how much fuel you're going to burn descending from altitude to an airport, you throw all those units into a giant toilet and flush'm. Backup hand calculations my ass.

Reasonable arguments are for the weak.
And those who don't understand sarcasm.

Your just jealous because we thought up our own measurements which makes us cool. America doesn't conform with the rest of the world world, they conform to us.
Actually, its not even our system. Its an old British age system from back in the colonial periods. America just missed out because Washington and some of the other founding fathers wanted America to isolate themselves from foreign affairs, since we were a small, vulnerable country at the time, so we missed the benefits of the French Revolution (where I think metric came from).

So yeah, America is using an older and already thought of system.
