I like motion controlled games don't overuse them - like Super Mario Galaxy's spin attack being executed through a nice, instinctive shake.

Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for the Wii, on the other hand...

Excite Truck and WarioWare I enjoy the motion controls in. In Rachet and Clank and Motorstorm, I found them for the most part dire and raged against the heavens when I was required to use them (Zak and Wiki wasn't great either). It should be better next generation when companies have more experience implementing them, but the most worrisome thing to me is that flagship developers for both Sony and Nintendo either included the controls arbitrarily or couldn't be bothered to get them right. My console of choice is still the 360, and motion controls have done little to promote the Wii to me and served as repellent for the PS3.

Lair proved without a shadow of a doubt that for certain games if there is no option to turn it off and you point blank refuse to playtest your game with anybody except fanbois then you are doomed to deserved failure.

i like them... when they belong there. the wii is the only console where i might consider an FPS superior to computer, metroid prime 3 was GREAT except for one gameplay fuckup (i need a pointing device, whether it be wiimote or mouse)

from the first post it looks like its more against BAD motion controllers. bad ANYTHING is generally considered to be not good.

I personally don't give two shits about motion control really.

It's an option for developers to work with, unless they take it to far (Lair) then I don't mind if it's optional and just a nifty add on.

Nothing wrong with them. Depends on the game, really, and the implementation. I'm really opposed to traditional console controllers, though. Awkward, archaic, clunky things.

it depends in what game it is. like in warhawk, it was supposed to be something sent from heaven or such but it was pure shit.

I've been a long time supporter of Nintendo, I currently have most of their older systems and all their handhelds. But the Wii... just a big dissapointment. In NO way did I want to play a Zelda or Mario game using motion control. Only reason I still have a Wii is for SSBB, but that's just because it isn't motion control.

If Nintendo's next system is also some sort of motion control or any other quirk, then I give up on them completely...

I'm ANTI-motion control 100%, they are no longer considered games...

I wouldn't be surprised if ALL systems in the next generation use motion control. You'll have to go to PC gaming to escape it more then likely.

Bad control(scheme)s are bad regardless of if they're traditional or motion-based.

People who complain about bad motion controls now, and act like bad controls are something completely unheard of in previous console generations, should have a look at all the third person games that still (after almost 15 years of that) can't handle a camera decently.

Yea, well I guess if the motion sensing was executed flawlessly, it would be worth it. But as it stands now, I'm still sketchy on the idea.

Anyone used the Sixaxis on Motorstorm? After trying it, the only benefit I can think of is to severely handicap yourself.

Absolutely right. A lot of games (on the wii at least) do a fenomenal job implementing motion controlls, to the point where some games make me want to never look at a dual analog again. But those are usually games that are concieved from the very begining with motion controlls in mind. remember people, this is the first time that video games are taking that leap, and there is a lot to be learned still. I always like to use the SNES controll pad as an example of how people tend to regect that kind of change; a lot of people hated the SNES controll pad ("too many buttons" was the common complain) look how far that layout got us.

I don't really care for them in most instances. If the control is something subtle, like the controlling of the sacboys in LBP, or reloading in GTAIV. If it's control is nice and subtle an doesn't require you to be holding your controller in the same exact position that the motion controlling programmer who made the game holds his in. Using a sudden snap to let you, say, spin ninety degrees is something useful. Trying to make you drive with it is fucking stupid.

Well, they're mostly for the people that flail their controllers around anyways (you know the ones, the folks that pull the console off the shelf trying to turn their car), so if you're not one of those peoples, it probably won't appeal to you. Plus, the PS3 motion recognition sucks anyways. Some games, the motion sensing actually fits. Others, it just makes your arms tired.

hahaha... that's how every old woman I ever saw play Super Mario Bros on the NES played. My mom, my aunts, my granny, whenever they played, they just heaved the controller upward with every jump.

Truthfully, compared to what will be possible in the future, the Wiimote is a clumsy "what if" concept.

It will not be going away, and now that nintendo has broken the old mold of the controller, that innovation will be felt in all systems to follow, much like when they introduced the rumble pack. It's funny what's happened to rumble over the years.. When it was first conceived, its designer was thinking exclusively of fishing games.

The N64 Rumble Pack was a little clumsy, it required extra batteries, and it stopped you from playing some games that required a memory pack (they later remedied this, but it was a slight issue for a while) but it worked well enough, Sony followed suit, and the rest is history. The technology advanced, and is still advancing to this day.

The same thing, I think, will happen with motion controls.

its acceptable for a few games, like where you are steering. also for pointing in shooter games like metroid prime 3, if that counts as motion control. otherwise i prefer using a regular controller.
