I think they only work properly on certain games.
For example, Red Steel for the Wii made pretty good use of the motion sensor; but it suffered from what all Wii games suffer from in my opinion - it was gimmicky.

Screw motion controls. I'm perfectly happy with the 360 controller. I don't want to have to be waving my arms around in the air like a retard just to play a videogame (yes I know it's not really like that I was exagerating please don't bother correcting me).

I wouldn't go so far as to call motion sensors a gimmick. They're in desperate need of refinement, but I think there's a good future for them (if only for games that are compatible with such options).

I was sort of upset when I played Zelda for the first time on the Wii, thinking I'd be able to have some sort of control on how my sword was swung. Like many people, I'm sure, I just sort of fell into the routine of jiggling my wrist a little to get him to swing. It wasn't any different than pressing a button on a controller. The Wii Sports had some good ideas, but the hardware needs improvements before something like a legitimate boxing game can really hit home.

(Boxing, by the way, would ROCK on motion controllers!)

That reminds me of some thoughts I had on sword fighting in future Zelda games. I'm assuming that they'll be going for more realistic sword control, which in turn means that they'd have to cut down on how much the player needs to use the sword... lest the average gamer would quickly grow tired.

What I'd like to see is more strategy to the combat, where you'd aim for specific body parts, choose between swinging or thrusting, and to an even greater extent utilize your shield and secondary weapons.

Ooh, I like that idea. One of my peeves about the Zelda series was how effectively useless your shield was. You could block and reflect some projectiles for the little creatures, but for bosses it was useless outside of occasional gimmicks. If a system could be worked out to where your enemies must land attacks outside of your shield and let you shift it around with the nun chuck attachment...

I think I like you.

It needs to be done. The Shield Bash feature in TP made me really interested in what else could be done with the shield. (And, of course, there'd also have to be parrying and accurately reflecting incoming ranged attacks -- such as magical orbs of doom -- with the sword.)

And, um... thank you? =)

I looked at this topic and thought, "I wonder if this person is going to be talking about six-axis?"

My expectations were met.
