As the title stated I just got down watching up to episode 17 of Kill la Kill. I got into the series by first catching episode 12 on Toonami and being utterly confused and thrilled at the insanity on the tube that I hurriedly went to find the rest off the English dub. I do not regret this. Now that I have caught up to my recorded episodes I felt the need to gush so please forgive me for the incoming Nonsensical ranting.

Bloody 'ell I love all these characters and the voice acting my god I am in love with this dub! Everyone is so bloody hammy it is PERFECT! I want Ira Gamagori's oh so intimidating voice! Satskui is amazing in her arrogance and skill! I am confused and bemused by Mako's antics. Why do I find Jakuzure's voice so damn attractive? And why oh why do I love Kaneo Takarada so much that jive turkey. Don't have much to say on our heroine as well I love her to bits. Oh and why oh why am I finding Nui Harime so ****ing terrifyin'?

*Coughs embarrassed* Thank y'all for allowing me to vent like that. So now that that is out of the way i am wondering what y'all think of my new favorite anime oh and your favorite character in the show.
(As fitting the show I added a bit of ham to the forum^_^)

Mako is boss, and I will hear none of it from anyone else.

I fell in love with that show about a few episodes in. It's so damn campy that it's glorious and amazing.

Easily one of the best anime shows I've seen in a long time, and the OST is pretty great too.

Ah I did love that episode. Does Mako get the two-star uniform back later on? That outfit is to good to waste on a single appearance.I must admit that I fell in love woth the series very early on. . as in within the first five minutes. . . because of Gamagori laughing evilly racing the thief to the bottom of the school . . which he jumped off of jumping all the while.

I thought Kill la Kill was massively overrated when I watched it but that doesn't mean it wasn't pretty entertaining. No complaints about the soundtrack either. Pretty golden. I have an overwhelming bias towards Patrick Seitz so Gamagoori is...probably my favorite out of all the characters. Jakuzure probably comes second.

I think so, but it's been a while since I saw it considering it was the subtitled version.

Gamagori is another awesome character and I swear he gets bigger as the series goes on. XD

I can understand why you might feel like that Solaire as the show can be rather. . .silly at times. *Cue awkward silence* I do agree with you about Patrick Seitz as Gamagori. He's tied with Steve Blum as my favorite voice actor. Oh and Fiz from what I noticed Gamagori size grows depending on how he views his position, servile or as being above them, is towards who he is facing. Towards Satsuki he is only a head or two above her. On Takarada he towers over most building.

Honestly, I love it when shows go ham on the action and get really silly. I'm fine with that. It's just that at certain points I felt like I had to turn off my brain a bit too much to enjoy the story or that I just had to ignore it completely since there's a number of points where it grew horribly predictable or just a bit too...dumb.

Really, the highlights for KlK for me are just the character designs/personalities, the music, and most of the fight sequences, though there were a few that were hilariously iffy (i.e. the one where Satsuki walks up the wall - looks really silly in a bad way to me).

Charming show for sure, but it's got a lot of flaws to me. Like a Platinum-developed game that's just good rather than awesome, to make a terrible comparison.

The lack of Mikisugi on that poll confuses me greatly. He's just so delightfully over the top.

I watched the first one and a half episodes before deciding this show really wasn't for me. Making something over the top for the sake of over the top and then have it go real fast is a sure way to lose me. If there's no semblance of normalcy for the craziness to contrast against it's just going to end up as a bunch of white noise. Fooly Cooly is a good example of a show that strikes the right balance.

Also, the fanservice. Yes I know, that's presumably the point, but that doesn't mean it's not still the same old fanservice meant to draw in teenage boys and lonely nerds in the hope they'll buy detailed figurines.

Satsuki (in her normal get-up) is a cool design though. Still, get to making Little Witch Academia 2, Trigger.

I have seen it three times now (I think), but never in English. I love the Japanese voices so much, I think it would be too jarring to shift to English now.

I watched it as it aired in Japan an loved every minute of it. The feels, man!

Picking a favorite character is really hard (I love the entire cast), but I think I'd have to go with Ryuuko every time. Sure, she can be a bit of an edgehog every now and then, but that's part of her charm. She's the got the most relatable arc ad she's just a super fun character all around.

The sisterhood feels were so real, man. SO REAL!

I enjoyed it. While it wasn't a good as Gurren Lagann (made by the same company) but I still liked the shows in its own right.

Seriously people, there is nothing wrong with over the top mindless action???

As for favourite characters, I don't really have one, they were all fun characters.

Time to be a nitpicking dick but KLK was made by the same lead two guys who created Gurren Lagann but not the same company. They split from Gainex to form Studio Trigger and then made KLK. I had to check it out after Episode 1 didn't have Gainex credited in the opening when this was clearly a spiritual successor to Gurren Lagann.

OT: I fuckin' loved KLK. As for Gamagoori's size it's very simple, he is the biggest guy in the room no matter how much they have to adjust him to do so.

I like how they didn't compete with TTGL exactly, when your last episode involves mechs throwing galaxies at each other you cannot compete in terms of sheer action and scale so they went for a more small scale thing. In scale and story, TTGL is Persona 3 whereas KLK is Persona 4, to use a terrible example XD

That show is an unholy amalgamation of everything I hate.

Which makes it all that more odd that I was thoroughly entertained by it.

The animation was clearly done on a shoestring budget, but they did well with what they had.

Newbie here. Anyway, I'm feeling tempted to give this one a try. I think it's available on Netflix. Currently watching Gurren Lagan. Once I get through that, I'll give it a shot. I've confirmed through Gurren Lagan that I can turn my brain off for mindless fun. This should be fun.

Just curious, what would that be? I'm not planning to criticize you or anything. I'd too much of an anime newbie to do that. I just want to know what I'm getting into.

well she can get a bit out of hand sometimes, a bit unwound.
You know I think I figured it out. No one that . . .cutesy should be so terrifying and yet she is. Her entirety attitude and personality quirks combined with that oh so cute voice is what makes her one of the most terrifying people in the show.

Not to get into spoilers, but yes, the Fight Club Pres makes another appearance near the series end.

I also vote for him; his combination of over-the-top gloriousness and creepyness was just so damn amazing.

Understandable. I honestly felt the first 3rd of the series was kind of weak compared to the later acts. "You killed my father!" storyline meets crazy action was kinda fun but meh at first, but the series hooked me as the storyline progresses.

Well, let's see now.

The animation is cheap. I don't know the jargon to describe it, but there's lots of looping, recycling, shortcuts, static images on 'speedlines' and such.

Ludicrous amounts of fan-service.

There's a wacky comedy sidekick character.

Fight scenes are nonsensical. (Matter of preference, I like my on-screen fights to be relatively grounded and meaty.)

Lots of painfully redundant dialogue and telling over showing, especially during fight scenes. Standard anime thing where everyone insists on describing, and often naming, their every technique.

Not a fan of the character designs. The two main characters actually look pretty cool in their standard appearances, but their various evolved/transformed/whatever forms look ridiculous. And no, I'm not talking about the sexualization, just the plain shitty visual design.

Plot gets pretty batshit towards the end.

Overall, still enjoyed it though. It manages to overcome its own assorted stupidities with a charming lack of fucks given.
