It´s nothing big. Just a little project me and some friends are gonna do. You know, show it to some class-mates and our teacher...that stuff. All my friends agree that im the best writer, so im writing the script. But now i´ve come to a halt. I´ve made two endings that make sense. In one, the main characters love interest get´s killed off by the antagonist and he promptly over-doses on cocaine in a dirty hotel room after he kills him. In the other, the main character gets his love interest, kills the antagonist and they both live happily ever after, fleeing the country.

And im having trouble deciding. The first seems to dark, but the other seems to happy. And mind you, these are the only endings that fit into context. Which one do you think i should take? Im happy with both endings, but i want to know which one has the biggest appeal.

If you want, i could expand.

Edit: I´ve posted the story a few posts down.

Well since it's nothing big, I'll say do the overdose one.

Choose the one that goes along with the overall tone of the whole movie. Some crazy jump in tone at the end of the movie won't make too much sense.

I would personally prefer the more tragic ending, as if done right then it can lead to an overall much more emotional and memorable story, especially if it takes them by surprise. Saying that, you must make sure that a tragic ending would not be too unlikely or construed, or risk your audience losing their suspension of disbelief. However, you must go with which ending fits the tone of the story in your mind and so will be satisfying for you.

there should be a role for the protagonist in the end of the film, he should at least have something indirectly to do with the demise of the antoganist. Since in your overdose ending he does not I'm voting happy. Or you could have the girl killed and then have the protagonist killing the antagonist in revange or tricking him into killing himself.

It's not very original but it works.

Well, i should probably tell you what the movie is about.

The movie follows the exploits of an FBI agent addicted to cocaine. At first, it was just a small side-thing, but it grew bigger and bigger, and soon enough, he was forced to help the mob using his status (Telling them about police razzias etc) to get the stuff. But he´s finally decided to try to give it up. The "Kingpin" promises that he´ll let him of the mob hook stock free if he preforms one final task, which is killing a man.

However, when he does that, the mob betrays him. They´re about to kill him when a couple of policemen show up and a wild shoot-out proceeds, where everybody on both sides die - except for the FBI agent. The kingpin will likely try to blame all the murders on him, to lock him up for the rest of his life. Now, it´s a fight agaisnt time as our hero desperatly tries to find the Kingpings location and kill him off before he goes to jail, using increasingly desperate measures to get results.

It also follows the exploits of the female character who is a police investigating the murder(s). (I know it sounds alittle like Indigo prochecy)

DO BOTH DO BOTH ^^
Yeah! Do the overdose ending, which turns out to be a happy ending! Somehow!

Wait, I know. Somehow, she saves him, keeps him alive, and he gets better. And they live happily ever after.

Well I would recommend you do both, and keep one for an alternate ending.

Or if you want my creative opinion you could have the main character save the heroine from death but die in the progress, possibly with the antagonist.

EDIT:
Dark ending, but only if the guy purposely ODs by injecting himself with the kingpin's personal stash.

As i said, those are the only 2 endings that fit.

The heroine eventually (3 act) decides to help him kill the kingpin, then take him in, but grows feelings towards him as the ending gets closer.

he finds that this whole time his love interest has been dead so he resorts to drugs but then the killer reveals that his love interest is still alive, barely... he struggles to overcome his addiction and promptly kills the bad guy... they all live happily evar after! :)

Hmmm, looks like I'm leaning towards the happy ending if the characters are significantly injured enough during the climax

You could show the Happy Ending, but have it then reveal to be just a hallucenatory vision of the Main Character in a seedy motel room as he is starting to feel the effects of cocaine overdose.

OR have the whole film turn out to be the hallucination of a filthy hobo.
