Your moniter can only do 2D. 3D is just a buch a 2D shapes skewed to look 3D.

So can your eyes. Just a 2D image constantly changing (at a terryfing refresh rate). But it doesn't matter. I say Diablo 2 looks great in 2D/3D setting. A lot of games would lose charm if they had changed to 3D. Any who says you can't have a 3D characters on 2D maps anyway?

What are you talking about? Games? Digital art? Sculptures? And I'd say they're both as good. Example: You have a 2D game, the characters are developed in 2D and they stay in 2D. 3d games are drawn in 2D and then they are made into 3D.

Exactly. You haven't played a real game till you've played a game in N-dimensional Hilbert space.

Hm, depends on the game, really.
For example, a point-and-click adventure is better in 2D.
While an action game might be better in 3D.
Also, a few years ago I would've said RTS looks better in 2D, but nowadays we've come to the point where even RTS can look good in 3D and not like a bunch of lego brick men hitting each other over the head (Warcraft 3).

You can't put the 2 up against each other.

There are 2-D games that blow many a 3-D game away and vice versa.

Comes down to personal preference, the type of game and how each respective dimension is implemented//stylised.

Some game are meant to be in 3D, some are born to be 2D and both got 'em charms.

I voted 3D since not many new games would really be playable in 2D, I play mostly online FPSs so yeah... But 2D HAS been a good viewpoint for many games even recently. So I can't really say that 2D is also bad...
