I think a female protagonist could open a lot of doors, especially if it was done in a non "OH SHE NEEDS YOUR HELP" sort of way. Any backstory could be added, even a particularly horrific abuse one.

She's fighting, looking for the person that abused her and from her findings a ring of abuse is found etc.

Or, she could be the girlfriend of a notorious gangster that is imprisoned for his discretions, but never speaks out, maybe hiding his drugs or whatnot.

The mix between vulnerable and gangsta is one that is prevalent in nearly every GTA. When CJ first comes home he's forced to run away from his enemies on a BMX, having a woman grow from a position of fear to dominance seems only natural.

Rockstar should have already had a female protagonist. I know I would've preferred to have gone through San Andreas playing as Catalina rather than dull ol' CJ.

The majority of the votes are male players that want to play has a female character... and i bet its not for the "rich story and intuitive gameplay"...

It wouldn't really make a difference to me. As long the main character has an interesting back story and realistic motives, I could care less what gender they are.

Rockstar doesn't necessarily need to make a female lead in a GTA game just to meet some sort of quota. They need to make a fleshed out character who can drive the story further than just doing missions involving car chases and gun fights .

if they went back to making fun games instead of the "realistic" bore-fest that was GTA4, then sure. Hell, Saints 2 pulled it off decently.

Looks like the general consensus seems to be 'as long as its not done for the sake of it.' Although my affinity towards a character isn't usually for things that are gender specific, so this isn't the sort of thing that weighs heavily as an incentive. So yeah, I would play a game with a female lead but not because of it.

I think so. Would give the game a bit more interesting flair to it. Personally, Id prefer character creation (but I always prefer that) but Saints Row 3 will have that I guess.
As for Hookers...could just not impose sexuallity on her. Let it be player's choice.
