I have an outdoor cat who likes to go out and adventure and the last two nights she has stayed out rather late and come out with no collar and seems to be jumpy. I was wondering if you guys one think someone is trying to steal her and two if you have any ideas(like a small hidden camera I could buy and mount her with to see) to see if someone is.

Hrmm. Interesting. Possibly?

I can't explain the collar missing part.

I have a friend who has a cat who just likes to go out hunting. Will disappear for a day and go hunt for birds and stuff. Always wins too. He'll do it even if he has a full food bowl.

I don't think so, but that's certainly dodgy. Maybe something else?
And I don't really know of anything you can do about it. Maybe follow it, if you're a ninja like me :)

how old is the cat and does she tend to get stuck in trees alot?

if so the collar may be catching on a branch in which she frets then when she gets out of the tree she will be shaken up??

she is a stray my mom picked up from the rain but we think she might be like 1 or 2 and I don't really know how much she gets stuck in trees but the times I have seen her climb she seems to be a good climber, but then again she is kinda squirrelly I wouldn't put it past to have like found a branch she can use to get the collars off on.

My friend's cat got lost for a few days and it somehow turned out it was stuck inside the walls of his house. We coaxed it out by bashing against the walls.

Good call on the collar, collars caught on trees etc can mean cats lose limbs.

Do you have your kitteh chipped? That is, a micro chip inserted under the skin? If not I would consider having that done (your local vet should be able to help) in case there is an issue of whose cat it is.

Yes, I have seen collar mounted cameras, they are probably incredibly expensive.

Do you send her out or does she demand to go? If she is getting older the whole territory thing might be getting a bit much for her abd she could be happier spending more time at home.

Probably got in a scrap with another cat and lost the collar, those things come off really easily made that was so the cat doesn't hang itself on them.
That could also be why its so jumpy, thinking its gonna be attacked again, or maybe had a bad run in with some people.

It probably sold the collar to feed it's drug habits.

Cough.

I doubt that someone's trying to steal your cat. They tend to be pretty inventive about getting out of various tight places, especially if they aren't generic garfield-like fat house cats with no claws and no dicks. If it's an active cat, I don't find it that unlikely that it wouldn't be able to get out of a collar if it really tried.

I agree with this more then anything else.

Seeing as my auntie has 14 outdoor cats and my nana has 1... i understand these things completely. Many times ive watched my nana's cat come back without her collar and suddeny wary of going out or coming near us. She gets over it quite fast and soon returns to the outdoors. It doesnt take much to scare a cat and an older cat can be easily freaked even though they should be used to the outdoors. Younger cats are usually inquisitive and often poke their noses where they dont belong and sharp get a shock.

Thread title made me lol ^^

I wouldn't worry. And even if she is stolen, she will probably escape and come back to you. cats=ninjas of the animal kingdom.

You can get a small camera that attaches to a cats collar so you can see where they go, but probably expensive. I can't remember if they transmit (limited range problem) or if they use a small memory device (not much use if the collar goes missing)

If the cats jumpy it won't go anywhere near a person if they tried to grab it in the past. Also good idea to have the cat microchipped too.

It could be anything though, fight with another cat, dog chasing it, asleep under a car when it started up.
Cats have been known to climb up under the wheel arches of vehicles and sleep there.

Its a cat, it probably used its collar to garrote its last victim. My advice, lock your doors at night.

I can't imagine someone "trying" to steal a cat. I mean, how does it take more than one try?
