Poll: I think the Hunger Games could make a pretty sweet game concept

I was reading the book yesterday and it occurred to me that the entire premise would make a sweet video game. You put 24 actual players into a multiplayer map via XBL or whatever and then design the game so that its like ultra realistic and really hard to play. Then the match goes until everyone is dead.

But it should't be like COD where people just run into a fight. You have to use strategy cause its way easy to die. It might also be cool to have a game mode where you need to worry about food and water and medicine and stuff.

I think if it were executed right, it would make an extremely fun and competitive game. What say you?

YES.

Health is rather realistic, but you should be able to heal various injuries with the right equipment.

You definitely don't want rushers who spawnkill really, so if you set it up like that ensure that everyone can get away from spawn. Prevent twitch gamers from getting any sort of upper hand too.

I think there ought to be a timer on standard games, maybe one or two hours before everyone's collar explodes.

It would probably take too long.
Then use battle royale's mechanisms to keep the game moving. Rotating kill zones where people will die if they don't escape. Put a time limit on the game, but allow people to play for marathon length if they like.

There is already a Minecraft Hunger Games map if you can't wait :p

edit: Battle Royale was more fun anyway :p

Try playing the DayZ mod. Ultra huge environment, fragility of life, necessity to survival, one life, sparse weapons, lethality when confronting humans, tons of ways to die without meeting someone else.

Quoting this because this really should be noticed.

I don't think people should be able to respawn. IT would kinda defeat the purpose of the match and take the challenge away. Once you are dead, you are dead. That way its really a question of skill.

There does exist such a thing, people have already mentioned the Minecraft Hunger Games map but there's plenty to be learned from the mistakes made from that.

While I don't blame the plug in makers since the idea is probably not feasible or just really difficult to execute in a Minecraft plug in but the lack of rotating "Danger Zones" ala Battle Royale really drags the game to a halt when there's only a few people remaining.

One hour sounds reasonable enough, but the Minecraft map has the time limit of that and combined with the above mentioned problem you often end up waiting 30 fucking minutes for a new game to start if you die at the mid-point of the game, god forbid you're one of the poor sods who went out early, you might as well play a different game for a bit. Mind you, this waiting ages for a game problem could probably be alleviated with the danger zone idea and I assume, the ability to just quit once you've died and go join a different game. With the fact that there's only a few Minecraft Hunger Games servers and they're almost always full, server switching doesn't tend to be viable.

I do hope someone learns from the Minecraft Hunger Games thing, because it's a great concept and when the game gets going I have a lot of fun with it, but the problems make it difficult to enjoy it for very long.

CaptainSparklez' hunger game went pretty well actually. "Danger zones" were actually simulated by the dead players, who after death, went into creative mode and stalked the remaining players spawning lava, and monsters, etc, to push the remaining players together into a final confrontation.

Wouldn't it kind of be like The Ship then, except with bigger environments?

...That sounds pretty awesome, actually. :p

The actual Hunger Games, maybe. The books or movie...HELL NO. If the books were made into a game, I would run the other way. The shoe horned in romance ruins everything. The premise of the actual Games is solid however.

As someone already mentioned, Either the Hunger Games Minecraft map, or just DayZ are good candidates.

Thing is, in the book there are spawn rushers lol. Remember that I think 5 people died the first few minutes? Would love to see things like alliances and such pop up

I really wonder how they are gonna do the last movie considering how gory it gets, especially with what happens at the end.

Very interesting idea, but like people have said, there are things out there to fill that niche for now. Also, it would be VERY difficult to program it in a way that people CAN die at the beginning, but almost no one does, and it would be hard to balance it with the cornucopia set up the way that it is, and perhaps scale down how many people? 24 people running from a central point leaves very little room in between them at the start, and since every person has to be equal, if you hit somebody first there isn't a whole lot they could do, so it would probably devolve into a giant fist fight. Find some way to ensure mostly everyone makes it out mostly alive and keep it super balanced and I'd buy that.
