Ya, 50 cal. is a "possible" war crime on human targets. Also, I no shoot people (if I can avoid it).
Well then "WHAT ARE YOU GONNA USE A SNIPER FOR!?"
Taking out vehicles and recreational practice. But at this point quiet a few people have told me how much the 50 cal round costs, and I am going for the Bravo51.
Ok I did a little research on Bravo 51. The rifle is an accurized Remington 700 that use McMillan Fiberglass stock, match grade barrel, and match trigger. It's a customized rifle so don't expect it to find it at a local gunstore. You probably have to called them up and have it built for you. Bet it going to be a long wait tho if they decide to do it.

You're better off getting a standard Remington 700 SPS. The difference between the SPS and Remington top line 700 is the stock.

To be honest no I have not, but I have fired many kinds of rifles, as I said before, I know its bloody hard to get a headshot, especially at the range you would be to avoid spooking the deer/elk/GRIZZLY BEAR RAWR/whatever.
Depending on the skull structure of the animal, a head shot is not a guaranteed kill. Animals that fight using their skulls are usually a bad proposition for taking out with a small calibre headshot due to the thickness of their skulls and how all the gooey stuff inside is arranged. More often than not, you try that sort of routine and you end up with an animal with a fractured skull and a major hate on for you.

Take it from someone who used to hunt feral pigs, both with rifle and spear.

I guess I was only taking into account a deer (speaking of which, my uncle used a 30. on a deer and completely obliterated its head, it was really fucked up, and I would know because I was watching)

I voted Beretta, and I know few things about firearms, when you spend so much money why don't go all the way.

I want to get a new sniper rifle

Which one should I get?

The Barrett M82A1 50 Cal. - Overpowered, maybe. But that engine block 2 miles away needs to be destroyed. ($2 per round)(retails for $3200) http://www.vincelewis.net/rifle.html

The Bravo51 7.62x51mm - Much more sane in power. Highly accurate and a lot cheaper to fire than 50 Cal ($0.50 per round). Also the rifle itself is cheaper. (retails for $1200) http://www.snipercentral.com/bravo51.htm

These are the 2 main ones I am looking at but any American sniper rifle might go on the list that I will look at. http://www.snipercentral.com/rifles.htm

I am 26 years old and all of these are legal in the state of Kansas.

EDIT: Many have pointed out that good 50 cal round cost $7.50 or more. I was looking at the cheap rounds by mistake. Also I probably will load (make) my own ammo.
Why get a sniper?

This has probably been said, but i don't see the point in asking a gaming forum to answer a question like that. Just my 2 cents though, there isn't a whole lot of point in buying either of those, unless you're going to be doing some serious hunting. Both of those cost well into the thousands of dollars (you'd really only use an M82A1 for hunting bears, or extremely long distance target shooting,. Honestly though, everytime I hear a of a forum like this it automatically makes me think of two kids fighting about "Who knows the most about guns" in the playground.

Barretts ftw, i loves me a .50 cal in arma 2.

But unless your going to collect it a horde it for the eventual ban on the thing. It is most likely far too impractical for use. The sheer cost for ammunition for one. Secondly the amount of skill it takes to shoot a rifle of that power at range and actually hit what you are shooting it, it may sound cool but that is not the kind of gun you can just pick up and be shooting stuff accurately without some heavy duty training and skill. And like other have pointed out while you might know some good spots to shoot the thing your options are going to be very limited in places you can actully shoot the thing without unintended consequences.

Basic gun safety does not cover the power and range of a .50 cal sniper platform that can take out an engine block and blow half of any critter that gets in the way to pieces.

Bottom line buy something that is reasonable and practical. If you want the barrett to just have it put it in a gun case and admire it gofor it. But if you want to shoot it think very long and hard, and then gofor the less dangerous and powerful options.

Lol at the thought of hunting with a .50 cal sniper rifle. Messy...
what are u talking about there would be nothing left of the target unless it was like a moose or maybe an elephant. I say get the .50 its an impressive gun and i think well worth the extra cost
That's not how things work in real life.
im exaggerating it makes posting more fun

I'd say anything but the .50 cal.

Seriously, that's a little...overpowered, not to mention expensive. Also, if you hunt, the Barret is a lot heavier, therefor harder to carry and run around with.
you don't hunt with a .50 cal
first off its not legal in most states to hunt with any rifle bigger than .30'06, i know in Massachusetts its not legal to hunt with a rifle bigger than a .22 so to do any real hunting you need to use a 20 or 12 gauge and as we all know slugs arn't exactly accurate.
Massachusetts is fucking stupid. .22 are too small to hunt big games. In fact pro hunt states ban them because it is inhuman (for big games).

Lots of people hunt with .50 caliber it called black powder rifle.
oh yeah i forgot that a large number of black powder rifles and muskets are 50 cals but i mean a high velocity 50 cal is not something you would realistically use for hunting.

You can get a .50 cal in Kansas?

Jesus christ.
You'd be surprised what people are allowed to have nowadays, though I think Tracer rounds are illegal in California.

Also, For a sniper rifle try and get your hands on a Barrett M82. As LRR once said, Manliness is in direct proportion to largliness.

All the people freaking about why does he need a .50 cal sniper:
You know how many people in America have been killed by 50.cal's?
ZERO
You know how many people were killed by SUV's in 2005?
4,666.
You are more likely to be killed by a chainsaw than a .50
You are more likely to be killed by a random seizure after years of playing video games with no problems.
Which should we ban first, smart escapist legal experts?

OT: I say the r700 based one. If Kansas turns retarded and bans .50 cal's then you can still shoot yours. It's based on a hunting rifle after all.

Well, it depends on your battlefield I suppose. For barren plains/dessert and an urban environment I'd go for the Barret, for the fact that'll go through walls and it'll go a long way.
If your battlefield is more diverse, especially woodland or uneven hillsides, I'd go for the bravo.

If you're just looking for a bit of fun, go for the Bravo, it's cheaper, and it won't fuck up your shoulder.

Why do you want a sniper rifle in the first place? If you must get one don't go for a Barat thats one of the strongest rifles in the world, I dont know what kinda fucked up animals you would be hunting with that thing but if you use it ona deer there wont be much of a corpse left for whatever you will use it for.
