I want to get a new sniper rifle

Which one should I get?

The Barrett M82A1 50 Cal. - Overpowered, maybe. But that engine block 2 miles away needs to be destroyed. ($2 per round)(retails for $3200) http://www.vincelewis.net/rifle.html

The Bravo51 7.62x51mm - Much more sane in power. Highly accurate and a lot cheaper to fire than 50 Cal ($0.50 per round). Also the rifle itself is cheaper. (retails for $1200) http://www.snipercentral.com/bravo51.htm

These are the 2 main ones I am looking at but any American sniper rifle might go on the list that I will look at. http://www.snipercentral.com/rifles.htm

I am 26 years old and all of these are legal in the state of Kansas.

EDIT: Many have pointed out that good 50 cal round cost $7.50 or more. I was looking at the cheap rounds by mistake. Also I probably will load (make) my own ammo.

I like the look of the Bravo one better. I'd pick that.

To be honest, I think you're asking the wrong people. You probaby be better off asking a gun forum. Still, with my limited knowledge of guns I'd say buy the Bravo51. I don't really see the point in a civilian owning a .50 cal. Plus, $2 a round seems pretty expensive. The Bravo is what I'd buy.

Jesus christ.

Those things are for taking down light armour!

Go with the Bravo. It's cheaper, and NATO rounds are cheap and easy to get. Plus, what on earth could you possibly need an anti-materiel sniper rifle for?
To my knowledge no, unless the law changed the highest a citizen could get is .495, or something close to that.

The Barrett has a practical range of 1 mile with a skilled sniper going too 2 miles. I just like the idea of taking out a vehicle at range.

But I am leaning towards the Bravo51 because of price.

Why waste your money on a Barrett? There's nowhere to shoot it around here. Unless you live in Western Kansas, you will find precious few places to fire a weapon of that range and power. I have enough trouble looking for a place to plink with my .30-06.

I should also ask if you have any experience shooting. Do you? Spending around $3000 on a rifle is not something most experienced shooters would do without a damn good reason.

Oh, and I'm from Kansas too.

ya, I am in western Kansas. I know a good spot to shoot at targets from half a mile away. I love the open country.

The Barrett was on display for sale at a gun shop. I held it, it felt good but it was heavy.

In Kansas, most guns are legal as long as you have a permit for them. (I think even full-auto is legal with a class-3 permit)

You Americans and your weapons... is there anything you aren't allowed to buy?
I'd say unless you're planning in advance for a zombie apocalypse or you want to overthrow the gouvernment where's the point in owning a sniper rifle?
