[Mods? I hope I'm not breaking any ethics codes here. If I am, kindly make the appropriate alterations, and I'll accept it.]

I want to get my tongue split.

Some would say that's really stupid, many might say gross. The idea is just so keen with me, that I can't help but return to it every once in a while. There's a handful of videos on youtube of people getting their tongue pierced, and testomonials seem to be positive from people that have had it done, and live with it.

My only concerns are if it ever comes up in the work place (I work at a bank), social repercussions (I'd pretty strange enough as is), and of course something going horribly wrong (this one almost doesn't register on my 'list' however).

It's on my mind alot lately, and I feel the need to talk about it. So, I've built a little poll. Also, I've put in some youtube videos. Now, be warned!! Tongue splitting is not for the feint of heart. I have two videos here, one is generally ok to look at. The other shows the process and might not settle well with everyone.

I'm serious, this is hardcore. And there is some blood. Turn back now if you're squimish, sensitive, or whiny.
Last chance to turn back...
I warned you. :)

[edit] I've noticed a fair bit of assumption, and I aim to post a minor faq here.

- I'm in my late 20's almost in my 30's.
- I'm female, so easy with the 'bros,' 'dudes,' and "you'll look like this guy."
- I've thought this over for a few years now.
- Tongue splitting is hard to notice unless you're actively staring at a persons tongue, and they stick it out. Disguise for a split would be simply not sticking the tongue out.
- I'd go see a medical practicioner, not a tattooist. So I would be in a medical environment. :)
- A medical setting utilizes pain killers, and a laser (not a scalpel. Risk becomes minimalised.

I agree with George, you think it's cool now, but whe nyou get older, you will hate yourself, and people will mock you terribly.

and second of all, what about when your 60, and regret it?
Maybe not. He could be the most awesome grandparent ever.

But seriously, why would you want to do it? It looks sort of silly (and creepy) to me.

Maybe you can elaborate a bit on why you actually want it? If you just think it's cool, I think you'll regret it later in life.

This sounds like something you will really regret in 20 years time.
Truly. Unless you're in your mid 20s or older, and you've settled into a career that you like, I would avoid it.

I know people who regret the most conservative of tattoos they've got. I can't imagine how a split tongue might look 20 years down the road.

I quite agree--gross.

Why the hell would you want that? Your tongue would look like a hoof. Not exactly appealing in any sense.

Just seems needless to me. What could you do with a split tongue? And who's to say that you won't regret in X years?

Seems stupid to me.
I can't imagine any reasoning for it beyond "Woo novelty factor!" of which you're bored with a couple years later, or, "I wanna be an individual!" just like the other people who go their tongues split before you.

If its the former, there are so many cheaper, painless, less life altering novelties to amuse you (heck this is a gaming website after all). If the latter, I personally think personality does a better job of making you stand out, rather than petty cosmetic changes. Tattoos I can almost understand (kinda... maybe...) because they can stand for an ideal or represent a special person/event, but this seems to me, as previously said, stupid.

Of course I find a lot of things stupid that are incredibly popular. Getting drunk for example, whereas many do it to break the ice, I'm of the belief that becoming reliant on a substance for fun or social interaction, prevents you bettering your true self through perseverance and facing fears.

So in the end, its your body not mine, so its for you to decide.

First up, why? What possible gain do you get from it?

Second, in fifteen years time you'll probably be saving up for a plastic surgeon to put your tongue back together. I don't mean to be rude, but something like this just strikes me as attention grabbing rather than a thought out decision.

Ignore all the naysayers. That is awesome.
I knew there'd be naysayers aplenty. :) So far, responce has been about on par with what I expected.

I've seen people with them before, it's a completely dominating feature. You would be known for the rest of your life as "the guy with the split tongue". I'd much prefer "the guy who nows too much about Futurama" or "the guy who can eat ten pounds of fairy floss", but it's up to you.
