I didn't find a response on the poll that meets my feelings so I just asserted people with split tounges are idiots. My real question that needs answering is why? Such a move is strange enough that it will almost certainly have a net negative impact on interpersonal interactions, especially in a professional environment. Most jobs don't like employees having something fairly tame like a tounge stud - how do you believe they'd feel if you had your tounge split?

As far as I can tell, there are really only two reasons one would embark down such a path. Either it's some sort of bizarre sex thing (at the end of the day a lot of the stranger mody modification stuff boils down to this), or it's an attempt to get some negative attention for whatever reason (the same reason that your young punk rock enthusiasts go for the wild hair and silly clothing).

I noticed there's not a "You should probably get some counseling" option in the poll. Fix plox?

I think I'll pass on that, and say you've made your point abundantly clear.

And it appears, judging from the poll, that my position is shared with the majority.

Anyway, so 8 pages later, do you still feel the same way about getting your tongue split? What, if anything, did change? Did the poll help at all at making your mind up?

I think I'm gonna have to say you should do it. It may not be something I would ever do (probably), but seeing as you've thought about it for around 5 years now, it's fixable, it doesn't affect your speech, and it's totally awesome, I say go for it. Talking about the stigma against body mods, I think there are a few things you should think about before hand. Is your current job okay with it, or do you have a backup? Do you have the mental fortitude to say "Fuck off" to everyone who looks down on you/is disgusted by you for splitting your tongue, but the self control to not actually say it to their face when in a situation where it would hurt you? If you have can answer yes to all these questions, then go for it. And just to make sure, you are getting your tongue split by a doctor in a sterile environment, and not by some tattoo artist you don't know, right?

Thank you! That's actually on of the kinder comments in this entire discussion. :) I don't know if I have the mental fortitude to tell off everyone that frowns on my mod, but I'm learning here that there will be plenty that will. Seems the mod community love it, but the non modders range from disgust to impartial (with a sprinkling of exceptions).

A doctor in a sterile environment! Roger that! :D Now if only I could find one.... ;)

I'm not going to deny it. That sounds pretty messed up.
I'd give that idea a few years of thought if I were you.

i would never do this i would regret it and so might you. but you do seem to be thinking of this in a very rational way, well as rational as someone who wants to spilt their tounge can think. Now, do you really want people talking to you like that in years to come? Only kidding, do what you think is best, if people cant really see it, then you why not. It's better than a tattoo or peircing in my opinion. Sorta. do what you want to do I dont want to be the reason somebody does such a crazy thing, im going now bye bye.

It has got to be very hard to get any girl to look at you twice once they see a split tongue...

Go with it if you really want to. Some things to keep in mind, and yes, some of them have already been said, but I say them in a more supportive way.

1)You may regret it later
2)It may cause social ridicule in some situations
3)If you do regret it when you're older, it'll be awkward with your kids and grandkids

There are probably more things I'm not thinking of. But, look at it this way. If you take all these things into consideration and still want to do it, then just do it.

On the upside, some people (including me) think that's pretty awesome, and it would definitely have an interesting effect on your sex life (you know what I'm talkin about).

EDIT: Oh I just saw your update. Good for you!

I don't really have an opinion whether that is cool or not. I personally see it as a bit.. pretentious. Then again I see nearly everything pretentious. One dilemma that I'm currently having is tattoos. They're art, they please the eye, but oh the vanity.

But it's like a tattoo in the face. Some will see you as a fully committed badass, others will question your sanity.

If you end up going through with it, don't get your hopes up for a lot of customer service jobs. The human isn't well known for it's ability to welcome new and strange things. As you'll probably notice if you skip through the last eight pages.

Did you get it done, or are you just getting your tongue pierced?
I spoke with the guy that will be preforming the split. He's taking off to china for am month in a few weeks. In the mean time, I'm just going to get a pair of piercings just to help mentally prepare myself. So pierce first, and then split in a couple of months. :)

Been there, done that. :)

Thanks. :) I've thought about these things, and meh, I'm cool with it. Not going to fight this. Gonna do what I want, what I love, and what makes me feel good.

Hah! Thanks. :) There are perks, of course.

I... I'm not sure I see the connection. That might be something on your end worth looking into. :)

Gosh Firia,I know you warned me and all but that video was unpleasant! I'm glad you're going to be numbed up when you do it, can't imagine why someone would put themselves through the voluntary torture video girl was enduring.

So negatives: I'm sure you're used to reading them; sex appeal. You're going to be highly attractive to a certain type of person, those who like something unusual. Normally I fit this group, but the split tongue triggers squicks in me. And I think I'm in the majority so you could be putting off plenty of potentials, course if you'd never have gone for them anyway it's no lose.

Next question is practical, seems to me that without one tip of your tongue you're going to lose a lot of licking power. Could mess you up in the bedroom, or maybe I'm just wrong here and it won't make a difference.

Did I read that you work in a bank? If you're continuing in a customer service role then this will cause employment problems for you unfortunately. Have you talked this over with your manager to see if your job will be safe?

I think the reason most of us are having problems with this is that it seems an extreme thing to be doing for almost no reason, that's because we can't share the (inexplicable?) desire to have it that you're feeling.

You want it though, so if you get it I hope you love it, and get plenty of enjoyment scaring people like me. :D

You basicly addressed it here yourself. :) I like a bit of adventure in my partners, and if the split turns them onto me, then score one for me. If it scares them away, it wouldn't have been the last anyway. :)

Well, I will lose the focused power of one tip (I'm just going to address this for ice cream), but I can always join then together, and lock the muscle. So I can still apply force, and eat my ice cream just fine. The "give" due to pressure will be all I have to worry about in that reguard. But I'm not trying to lick away stone blocks, and immovable objects. Just ice cream. ;)

My place of employment does not dictate what I do with my body. I absolutely do not need their permission.

Hah! I get no joy from scaring the crap out of folk like you. :) That's not what I'm about.... Well it might be worth a giggle.

Just imagine being an old man, with no teeth, and a split tongue.

That's all I really have to say about the subject.

If you're fine with that, or plan to die before you're 30, then more power to you.
