People hate them because they're ignorant dicks who do terrible things like cuss out families of dead soldiers. I don't think their religion makes much of a difference on that.

Well considering Christianity is the only religion it's safe to hate, I'd say if they get backlash at all, it would be immediately defended by the ACLU.

It's like the idea that it's bad to be a racist... unless it's against Caucasians. Then it's kinda alright.

What do you call a racist white guy?

Who cares? It's a racist white guy.

What do you call a racist black guy?

A stand-up comedian.

This sounds very much like a Religious topic to me, can I can't help but feel that this is the wrong forum to post it in.
Just saying.

Also, this thread is seriously pointless...

I mean, the WBC can barely count themselves as Baptist; their views are so far-fetched and extremist.
No matter what religion they were, their behaviour is pathetic.

It's basically saying 'If Hitler was American, would people still hate him?'

/pointless thread.

No, I can quite happpily say I'm entirely ambivalent about most people, but I view Zionist right-wingers, and fundamentalists generally as twats. Some of them are members of the Israeli government. Hamas are exactly as tittish, they've just got a smaller budget.

In terms of the jewish population worldwide, the Israeli people, and the Palestinian people, I remain ambivalent. Like everyone else.

Well, until recently, I had actually never heardd of this church. And, to answer what someone is probably thinking, no, I don't watch the news. I read articles, and this place never came up in the articles I've read.

But, that said, I looked this church up on google, and went to their Wikipedia article. Yeah, I know. But, I'm not doing in-depth research. I just want the bullet points. So, eat me. A quick scan of thier beliefs leads me to a single conclusion. Every single thing that these people practice is endorsed somewhere in the Bible. I will grant that most of it is in the Old Testament. But, a source no less important in the Bible than Jesus Christ said, on mulitple occasions, that the original laws in the Old Testament would be forever enforced.

?For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.? (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV)

So, yeah. Christians, the people that are actually acting on behalf of the book you "base your lives upon...." those are the people of the Westboro Baptist Church. To be honest, since I've read the Bible cover to cover, that church is leaving a lot of things out that God hates, and wants to make people suffer for. It's really rather disturbing to find out exactly how much of the Bible is just plain ignored, in the name of giving Christianity a positive face.

And, since it's going to come up, no, I don't agree with anything said by this group of mentally disturbed slack-jawed dipshits. Not even the "God is real" part of their speech.

I suppose it's a similar query as the whole 'islamic extremist' thing. Yes there are certainly groups who exist, however people (in the more civilised parts of the west at least) don't like to rationalise an entire group under this stigma. If someone started complaining about 'the islams' they would seem immediately hateful and intolerant.
If these were called perhaps, 'Jewish extremists' instead of just 'Jews' then I imagine people wouldn't be so afraid of the unfortunate implicaitions.

That's awesome... what does it have to do with the question?

Still in my experiences no one really cares about race much (in the Netherlands).
Like the term ''hatecrime'' practically doesn't exist here. It's just a crime.
That has more to do with Islam and immigrant workers being the hater's fad nowadays. They just don't have the time anymore to simultaneously hate black people, jews, muslems, Marrocans, Turks, gay people, Poles, and the government - so something's gotta give.

On topic: You don't even have to pull in the hypothetical "Westboro Zionist Synagogue" - there are enough ultra-orthodox offsprings of judaism to be found in Israel.

And in either case: the rules of the internet still apply - as soon as you pay attention to a troll he wins.
