Assume here that, in a twist of fate, your old console breaks on you. On your trip to the store for a new system, you stumbe across an article confirmed by all credible gaming magazines (PC gamer, CVG, The Escapist, etc) that all games are to be realeased on all current-gen systems, and each customer is to be given a free entertainment system of their choice between a 360, Wii, PS3, a PC (for the PC, it is a top-end system with all the best parts as of 22/11/2009) or a top-end mac (yes, released on Mac as well). The services for the consoles will remain unchaged, but things like DLC are going to be on sale be on all systems. All the games will get the appropriate changes (motion sensitivity for Wii, sixaxis for PS3 etc). The question now is which system will you go for?

PC of course. No contest as always. Especially if you're getting a free top-end system.

Edit: A more comparable poll would be a 400$~ PC.

If all it was down to was controls and modding, I would pick PC. Not only do you get mouse and keyboard, you also get the ability to improve it when new hardware comes out.

The biggest reason would be the mods though. If all games were out for all systems, including PC, that means you would see mods for any game imaginable on PC.

PS3 because I'm most comfortable with the controls. After all, I'm getting it for free, so that's all it really comes down to, right? Best controls?

I'd stick with my 360. The only difference would be a I wouldn't have to worry about all thoughs awesome exclusives coming to the PS3.

PC, easy. First of all, it's top line spec which covers you for a good few years. Plus, EVERY game means tons of mods and user made stuff which you can't get on the consoles.

And a PC can be used for lots of other things other than gaming

PC only if I get to use my own controller or a controller from a console.

Keyboards are for people who... well, like keyboards. AND I LIKE CONTROLLERS, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

PC in a heartbeat. You get all the free mods, console commands to let you screw around with the game, download-able games over Steam, and (in my opinion) better controls for most game genres (and you can plug in a gamepad if you prefer them). Plus, you don't have to pay for Xbox Live.

Probably over a mac (and I hate myself for saying it). I say this strictly because of the OS's lack of susceptibility to get riddled with system crippling viruses.

And naturally I want at least 1TB of hard drive space.

A lot of games come with controller support on the PC these days and it's exceptionally simple to set one up with a quick google.

As others have said, definitely the PC. My PC is getting on to be a few years old now and it still plays new titles flawlessly. Not on top graphics mind, but I don't have any issues.

I should think she's probably due for an upgrade. Might get her Windows 7, a bunch of new RAM and a new graphics card for Christmas. Maybe a new external hard drive for extra anime storage as well? Who knows. Depends how well she treats me.

PC easily. Hardware is less of a limitation for future games, community mods, superior controls, and I like putting them together (if offered the top end PC in this example I would tell them to send me the parts so I can put it together myself). In fact, I doubt I will get another console system in the future. Once my PS3 dies or is outdated I'll be a strictly PC gamer.

PC without a doubt, it has the best online by far, not to mention mods, a multitude of programs for gaming and other things, and my general preference for the feel/interface of it.
