Quantum computing. After that, nothing else will be truly viable as a platform. Especially when it gets cheap.

Lately, I'm hearing alot of Chicken Little over consoles AND PC for some strange reason. I dunno why, but I wish people would make up their minds. It's either one or the other, not both. And if it IS both, then obviously it's down to an assload of really dumb ideas all around.

Really, though. That one picture about PCs "Happly Dying" since whenever? You can apply a similar title to consoles as well. Neither of these puppies are gonna back down.

If gaming as we know it goes the way of the dodo then I think it will be mostly due to the casual market.

And I say it can't happen soon enough. Gaming as we know it is shit.
Herp Derp am cool cause i think all the new games are bad. Gtho!. Theres so many great games that have come out in the last 5 years some of the greatests even.Guilty Gear XX Λ Core anyone? Greatest game ever made released in 08.
Accent core was from 2006.
Well if were really getting technical your right, i was just saying that cause by the time Accentcore plus was done being released it was around 08. thats why i considered it 08. Accent Core is just easyier then saying Accent Core plus.

So my appolgies. Also unless you were like me and had a Local Aracde with the game, Accent core was actually released middle of 2007. Oh i miss those days :) Accent Core, 2 cabinets and tournies every 2 weeks.

You a GG fan? Hope so, if so just keep playin man show the world that sure Blazblue is ok but nothing compares to the greatest game ever made. I've recently been planning to buy a canibet, now thatd be a dream come true.

Uh huh.

Because it's not possible for me to hold an opinion contrary to your for valid reasons. Nope, I must be trying to be cool by criticising popular stuff. Yes, that must be it!

Funny thing is, I never said anything about all the new games being bad. In fact, all my favourite games were made within the last ten years.

Oh, you know. The guy down at the 'Well, that's my day ruined' or whatever thread was talking about that video on the Escapist and every now and then there's always some talk about EA's cock-ups and Steam doing whatever and BS like that there.

It's all a load of crap. There's too much money in both console and PC for either one to ever go the way of the Titanic, and that bottom line is precisely why all discussions about which is better, which is dying, which looks more like a pink flamingo, etc. is entirely pointless.

In fact, I can guarantee you that even if whole companies go under in a big business war, you just HAVE TO figure something crazy like Microsoft keeping the X-Box and still supporting PC-gaming in a shrewd play-against-itself routine while fighting 'conflict of interest' lawsuits on all sides. I wouldn't put it past 'em.

It'll probably be a lack of innovation or any developers really pushing the envelope. I know for me it's just not worth it to shell out 60 dollars for Homefront when I can get the same experience with a bunch of other different games in the bargain bin.

Nonetheless, I don't think gaming as we know it right now will ever die, there is just too much demand for high quality, well produced products.

Consoles wont go anywhere. I wont call People who buy consoles Fanboys, but i think there always will be people who would like to play on a screen that is too large to be portable while sitting on a sofa. There will be People who want something as easy to set up as possible.

It'll be Adrian's fault. That guy has been ruining the world of gaming since 2002.
In all seriousness though, I don't think consoles are going anywhere for a while.

Whatever happens, happens. I don't know what the future holds for consoles or PCs, nobody does. There are certainly some reforms that console development and PC development can make that will benefit both of them in the long run, but in the end nobody knows what's going to happen.

We'll just have to wait and see if the doomsday sayers are right on this one. After all, even a broken clock is right twice a day, no?

The best games are the hardest to make, cost the most money and are becoming increasingly risky. Angry birds looks like it was put together in a few hours, it sells 100m copies. Meanwhile yakuza creates a hugely culturally immersive game world and can barely break even and games like mass effect and uncharted only sell a few million. La Noire, one of the most ambitious games ever, may not make money. It's a shame that for a while there, the list of best selling games and best games weren't so different but now it's going to get further and further away.

...since when have people been saying consoles are dying? I'm pretty such sales across all platforms have broken new records year after year.

Actually, that's what makes me most worried. As an investor I got to tell you there really isn't that much money to be made in creating the big games we all like.
Many of the people who do the actual work, don't make a lot and do it mostly for the love of it. Even the board members and VPs don't make as much as their counterparts in other corporations.
It seems like the struggle between making money per unit and keeping it affordable enough that people will still buy could be enough to tear the industry apart. Maybe I should be thankful that gamers are so easily parted with their cash. Those suckers who are willing to spend every time gamestop says pre-order, might just be the people keeping the industry alive. But they're also the people telling the corporations that their practices are sound.
