At first, I was like "Aw man! That's sounds cool to do... Laying an egg..."
Then, I was like "I would not eat the eggs, though... That might fuck me up in my brain somehow..."
Then, I ate a late egg sandwich before typing this reply...

Overall, no... But, I'm now curious if this "laying of the egg" would have similar mental replications to having a period, if it were to "replace" it on a monthly basis... (I think that answer's more simple than I'm imagining it right now...)

Honestly that sound like as if the entire society would change from it unless you mean it start to happen tomorrow? I mean if this was something that happened since the birth of man then technically no one should have a problem with it per say or maybe they still have a problem with it as simply being one of the taboos.

Excellent and wise summation.

My contribution to the thread: What if they also shat chocolate? Would you eat it? Hey makes about as much sense as the current topic.

Oh man. I am trying to eat a sandwich. Laying an egg would be a horrible experience. Although in a universe where women didn't bleed for one week out of the month, I'm sure that periods would seem really horrible too.

I think eating one's own egg could possibly be problematic, but I'm not sure. We don't really have that sort of recycling system right now, so I'm not sure if it could lead to long term health effects/disease. Maybe eating other people's eggs would be alright, but how the heck would you regulate that?

I just got the mental image of a bunch of women sitting around in chicken cages looking sad. I don't know if I can finish the sandwich.

Maybe it would be more realistic to use these eggs for feed or fertilizer/compost.

Well, human females can already produce milk, and in western culture drinking that is considered icky, so I assume eggs would be just the same.

We could similarly use human blood as a food, but rarely do.

Although, if humans had just always laid eggs like that, we would have probably eaten them, and considered that normal, because it's food.

There probably would have also been a lot of women's rights-issues on who gets to eat them. A fist sized egg is quite a bit of food if you're starving.

I'd consider that the same as breast-milk or blood or other things the body produces;
Sure, eat them as long as the person who produced it doesn't mind.

That depends, what kind of chocolate? Milk or dark, or would everybody just plop out Oh Henrys?

I wouldn't but people would.
Especially people in anyplace that had a shortage of food. In China it would be a delicacy.

Hmm. Excellent question. I suppose it would vary from person to person and be based on their own metabolism and diet. And yes if someone regularly ingested caramel and peanuts the Oh Henry could be a possibility.

Kind of off topic but I haven't had an Oh Henry candy bar since the early 1980s. Are they still being made and can they be purchased outside the US?

The more interesting question to me is, if the only changed aspect of copulation is the laying of an egg, how would it be fertilized?

Does the egg start as an ovum as usual but have to be fertilized in utero or else it will develop a shell and must be shed?

Is the entire female anatomy changed to accommodate hard shell eggs?

And you animals are most concerned if they are edible or not?? We have our extinction at hand here! =P

Do you think it would be morally wrong to eat unfertilized human eggs? Would it count as cannibalism? Would stores sell dozens of human eggs instead of chicken eggs? Would you feel comfortable being served your mother's/sister's/friend's/significant other's egg? If you are a girl would you eat your own eggs?
No, it wouldn't be unethical if the egg is not fertilized. It's just half the chromosomes of a human being, so it be as ethical as masturbating or a blowjob.

Now, eating the eggs of your relatives might be a little gross, but I don't find it that bad.

Cool! Thanks! Looks like I'll be buying myself a present this Xmas. And yeah I've been around, just not posting much, just been contented to lurk I guess. As to life, it's going pretty good, not much of a holiday person myself but my girlfriend is which means I'll bloody well get into the holiday spirit or sleep on the couch. Hows things been for you?

Well, after reading that, bleeding and dealing with cramps once a month doesn't seem so bad.

Honestly, I can't say one way or another. Ethically, I don't think it would be bad to eat an unfertilized egg but there's definitely still that "Ick" factor. Also, considering the occasions I've heard about when my grandfather and father were making breakfast and found that they'd cracked open a fertilized chicken egg... I don't think I'd want to take that chance.

Technically women "lay eggs" every month, and shit I'll try anything once.

But I assume youre talking about like, chicken eggs? I think SOME people would definitely eat them. We live in a world where street vendors in china sell eggs hard boiled in little boy piss. No I'm not kidding http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_boy_egg

Whether or not it would be taboo is another story. If they taste like chicken eggs and have similar nutritional properties I think they'd definitely be commonly eaten. Especially by broke bachelors and college students.

Probably not. Cannibalism has enough stigma associated with it that I'd wager that even were it perfectly safe (Which is a big 'if') it's likely that eating human eggs would make pariahs out of the practitioners.

We don't drink human milk (well... most of us don't), so I doubt we'd eat human eggs.

If nothing else, it'd be because it's wired into our brain to not do that. Same reason cannibalism isn't more popular.
