Your taking Christianity as a whole group. Your combing all the different forms together. You can't add Catholics to this list as the Catholics barely follow the bible anyway. For a start christening is not in the Bible. Baptism is which means fully emerged in water not being sprinkled over the head. Im a Christianity and we didn't screw the world over in the dark ages like the catholics did.
Ok, I would like to quickly point out, because this will bug me forever otherwise, the two main branches of Christianity are not Christianity and Catholicism. It Catholicism and Protestantism. When you say Christian, you're talking about a whole lot of people.

Now, on Jesus as President. He sounds good from the point of view of the Bible, but there's at least one thing that would destroy his candidacy. Like the missing childhood thing. Give me either the rest of the story or one hell of a good reason the space time continuum decided to take a few days off and I'd think about it.

I would, but I doubt most Americans would after they heard him speak. He'd be called a Socialist and hated by the conservative and religious, ironically, nutjobs that seem to populate this country.

Yes, but only because if Jesus was actually real, I would be so fucking happy.
I mean, come on, eternal heaven and an afterlife...

I'm an atheist, and the whole idea of it it is just ridiculous to me, but if it were true, it would be like "people can now fly", it would be awesome =D

as an atheist, i would say yes. whilst the religion is a money hungry corrupt organization, Jesus was a man who promoted common human decency and respect above all else, no matter what kind of human you are/were, remove the worship god bit and he would be the perfect world leader.
What he said.

No...I believe too strongly in secularism. Religion corrupts the state and the state corrupts religion.

Still...if we were to cut out the Old Testament and scrape that into the dustbin, I might be tempted.
Just want to point out, scraping the majority of the Old Testament into the dust bin was pretty much the whole point of the New Testament. 96% of it is just historical context for the actual important bits >.>

OP: Yes. To echo many other people here, Jesus did not think gays were bad. In fact, there is even a portion of the Bible where he speaks on how anyone who calls his brother a fool is committing a grievous sin and should be ashamed. But there are many scholars who notice the original Greek word there would be more accurately translated as "effeminate" or "homosexual", so basically Jesus was calling out homophobes on their BS a couple thousand of years before anyone else would get down to business.

Lord give me strength. Please, don't do this. You are making the rest of us look bad. We are not, I repeat, we are not going to get into an argument over freaking Baptism, one of the most wholly secondary teachings of the Bible. Also, the Catholics did not screw up the world during the Dark Ages. Corruption and greed certainly did, but that's not inherent to Catholicism, that's just inherent to people. I'm not a big fan of Catholicism, being a Protestant myself, but it's ridiculous to call out an entire sect of Christianity for it's worst excesses. My best friend is a Catholic, and he's one of the most...eh, he is a great...well, he's a good guy. Not perfect, but his hearts in the right place.

also I will wonder why jesus is concerned with america when israel would be a more suitable place for him to rule

Didn't Jesus die when he was 32 thus making him ineligible to be president? If not, are we talking kids style Jesus or 13 apostles Jesus?
I thought he died at 33, oh well I might be wrong.

I guess I would, but he wouldn't teach evolution and many forms of science which would probably annoy me. I mean talking to people who have such a closed view of the world and who think that the universe is only 6000 years old would piss me off a lot.
Well, the point is you need to be 35 to run for president. I would be willing to bet Jesus would say "guys, this thing is metaphorical".

No way. According to the Bible he was quite sure that the world would end just decades after his death. And as such he would have no motivation to address any issue regarding the future. Pollution, decreasing bio-diversity and global warming would be things that he would have no reason to worry about. He would ruin not only the US economy but more or less the entire world.

Jesus as president? No fucking way.

1) The guy doesn't seem very politically superior to me.
2) He's a religious person, and I hate religion.
3) I don't trust a guy like Jesus to handle anything regarding economics and/or the stability of a country.

Would he be republican? I thought yes at first but I saw a bumper sticker that was very informative about his stance on the party. Would he toe the party line like all resurrected deities when faced with decisions? Vishnu screwed that shit up in the 70's, and Amaterasu didn't fare so well during the Sarin attacks in the 90's.
I'm thinking religious moderate. Definitely a mix of left and right views. Environmentalism, education, and good taxes on the rich, but anti-abortion rest of the religious agenda.

Wouldn't vote for him though, my stance on the separation of church and state is very solid.

No. This country has a separation between church and state for a reason. Religious dogma should never be the basis for secular law.
didnt jesus said something about separation of the state/religion? Something akin to "leave to ceasar what is to him, leave to god his own stuff"?

This is a poll I've been curious about; knowing that a good amount of the American population that'll vote for someone because of their religion or how often they say god bless America.

So, Jesus Christ returns and runs for president.
If you need to know anymore, his stances are based on biblical teachings. Love thy neighbor (ie Mexico), gays are bad, etc.

..I kind of take offense to your 'gays are bad' part of your Topic. The bible doesn't speak of anything against gays, within all the verses I know due to being a Christian myself reading the bible daily. But, I won't bash on you fellow Escapist because I know we're more mature and civil then that. Besides, it's your belief if you think we feel that gays are bad and I know most Christians are not ok with gays (sadly).

Yes, he'd make an amazing president in my opinion due to how inspiring and amazing he was overall. I'd want him to run the country for as long as humanity lived. Just my opinion, but in truth making this Thread is risky because many aren't Christians (which I am fine with, I don't discriminate anyone) and may not like the idea of Jesus running the country.

If you can, please change the 'gays are bad' part because we Christians aren't like the WBC (westboro baptist church) that puts down everyone and alters the word of God to be hateful. A simple request and I won't force you to, but just asking in favor please. Also, i'm not perfect and know people wouldn't feel ok with Jesus running here so I hope this doesn't become a flame war or people putting down anyone's beliefs..
Leviticus 20:13 "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them."

So yeah it's in the old testament. So even if you don't acknowledge the Old Testament, it was still God's word at one point.

EDIT: Apologies if this has already been mentioned. This thread is long

EDIT 2: As for the OPs question, that depends entirely on what he stood for. Old Testament stuff, hell no. Generally be nice to people I can live with

Probably been said before, but Jesus is from the Middle East, I doubt even half the country would want to see him there, not knowing who he is.
