If the force was real it probably wouldn't result in a light and dark side but in many different gray sides you can't simply stick a label on with 'good' or 'evil'. The real world just isn't that simple.

id have the loverly dilemma of my dual personalities. One is the "i want to make the world a better place" but he's tainted by the thought of who oppose me or are "evil" will be destroyed. and my dark side of i want ultimate power to defend myself and punish others has the idea of greater good.

this would leave me lurching between the two sides like a drunken hobo, but in the end i wants the lightning and the force choking.

I would say dark side. The light side of the force tell you to "hide" your emotions while the dark side says use them. So yeah, I would gladly join the dark side.

So My friends and I got into a discussion that if the force was real that most of the people in the world would be more likely to embrace the dark side than the light side. I said this due to the fact that people are self-centered and egomanciacle as well as emotional. So this in My eyes mean that more people would be Siths opposed to Jedi. My friend disagreed and said that more people would be neutral or light side because there are not that many truly evil people. I would like to know what you here at the escapist think.
Well many people are egocentric and selfish but emotion such as love, lust and compassion are not emotions that lead to the dark side. In the Canon Star Wars universe, after Luke started the new academy they adopted a slightly different teaching and thus ending the forbidding of marriage or engaging in a serious relationship.

One thing that will always remain true in the Star Wars universe is that vengeance leads to the dark side.

I'd also like to say that Kyle Katarn is one who uses the powers of the dark side yet remains on the light side. He does tread close to the fence at times though. He is in fact one of those who brought on the change of philosophy of the Jedi Order.

Light side... all that power corrupts you a little bit too easily, and even things like lightning and other powers like that on the dark side, well you saw how it aged senator Palpatine... it just isn't natural for the body to function in that manner.

For good? you mean you could 'force choke' an old lady across the road or use 'lightning' to donate to the needy?

I would definitely go for the light side.

If you are a Sith master and you take up a apprentice like the Jedi do, your pupil will one day try to kill you so that he will be that master.
Actually, the secret is quite simple:

Seduce a woman, make her your apprentice, impregnate her, then, when she has the child, kill her, train your child, then possess your child's body. Lather, rinse, repeat! My girlfriend, my current apprentice, gave me the idea. I LOVED it...
hold on...she gave you the idea to in the future kill her and possess her child?!?
sounds like a good idea.

I would be neutral with a slight tilt to the light if I could choose.

If going by the canon I (and most people) would be dark side, not sith since that is an entire mindset and philosophy but my emotions and feelings would likely result in me wanting more and more power and therefore descend into the darkness.

It doesn't matter whether or not you use your powers for good or bad. If you want to become stronger and more powerful when using them (even if just to defeat the evil) then you would tip slightly to the dark side and more and more each time until you end up as dark as they get. [/canon view of the force]

The problem is that the entire idea of the force is derived from Taoism (I think) where every act and thought have an effect on you and your surroundings and the perfect mindset is serene and not wanting anything (read: Jedi). The antithesis to this is the sith (or the dark side) where you are ruled by your feelings and wants.

I wouldn't adhere to such childish notions of "light" and "dark".

Good and evil are abstracts. There is only power, and I intend to use it however I damn well please.
That kinda means dark side :p

For me though.. even if you gave me force powers I'd be light. I reckon there would be alot of people on the light side. If everyone could use the Force, we would still be bound be our moral codes.

Have to admit it would be more interesting if only 1 person had it (if it were me I would probably still stay light... Episode 3 shows that even a lightsaber can't stop 15 guns firing at you at once).
