Poll: If we could make Jurassic Park, should we?

I really dont think so.
Not as much because of safity (not sure i spelled that right) matters, as seen in the movie, but more due to the ethic of the question.
And moreover, if we had the technology to do this, then were would we stop to use? At the point were we started using gene-meddling to perfect humans? Create new intelligent life, then subdue it?
Such technology would be misused, thats for sure. And theres no telling how.

Really, big dinosoars escaping would not be a problem. Big things are very easy to hunt and kill, even if it has big teeth. The problems start when the little ones get out.

Dont forget, that unlike in the movies, they wouldnt be having godmode on, and they would be actually affected by bullets.

In case im wrong, we can still train teen acrobats to fight them.

Also, of course we should do it, why the hell not? After all the teasing(museums, movies and whatnot) i want to know how they really looked like.

Ehh most posters are forgetting that most dinosaurs where small also just don't make enough to establish a stable breeding population so if things go wrong it'll fix itself.

Also there is not enough free oxygen now to support large active animals like that without creating a sealed environment. (Edit: There is some debate over that statement)

Why not, dinosaurs rule. Just make sure to keep the facility on an island very far away from mainland and it should keep them from spreading to far out. Also imagine all the science we could learn from them. Not to mention all the uses they have including this

Well those sealed enclosures would then open up for a potential Carboniferous Park. I just sincerely hope that they wont recreate the mesothelae since that thing is my worst nightmare come true. A giant spider. Although Meganeura would be kind of awesome.

Or one could make a Silurian Waterworld (I hear that Brontoscorpio was quite an impressive specimen).

So, I want to comment on something about this topic. Some people have questioned the scientific purpose of cloning dinosaurs. "Why should we do this? What is there to gain?"

Personally, I'm of the opinion that ALL scientific progress has merit, even if it isn't immediately apparent what it is.

Think about it for a second. At first glance, the space program doesn't seem like it has alot of practical applications. And it most certainly didn't seem that way when it first began. But the space program has given us loads and loads of incredibly useful inventions.

Case in point: Were it not for the space program, you would not be reading the words I am writing right now. Without the space program, we wouldn't have man-made satelites. And without those, no instant information age. Was the internet the original intent of the space program? Of course not. But the progress achieved THROUGH it gave us tons of wonderful, wonderful things.

So, even if it isn't apparent now, technological advances brought about by the research of dinosaurs could be monumental.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

No, we should make a Cretaceous Park instead.

That would likely be the best bet actually...of course for marketing purposes, Jurassic Park may have to keep its name. Another interesting idea would be a Jurassic Aquarium.

If we could create dinosaurs from nothing? Yes we should.
Why? well honestly it would be a very short road from making the first one, to solving world hunger. If we can breed and slaughter cows by the hundreds you better believe I think T-rex legs with a side of mashed potatoes would be great. Just one of those things would feed so many people it's not even funny. And they are extinct. They don't have any rights. Nobody can say we're damaging the ecology by raising them and having them for dinner like this. So yeah buddy you better believe I think we should. Let the Dinosaur steaks roll on!

yes if we can bring dinosaurs back then we certainly should. however what we shouldn't do is then turn it into a theme park where people can actually get close to them, and we especially shouldn't send Samuel Jackson off on his own haha
