Poll: If you had the power to change the world....

But you had to get your hands dirty, would you do it?

Think deathnote or Code Geass, both are about two boys with hatred for the evil in the world (Light hate unjustice, Lelouch hates the leaders of the world). They manage to come across a supernatural power that aids them greatly in their endeavor.

Do you hate something in the world enough to become evil to change it? If you had a deathnote would you use it *save* everyone, if you had Geass would you bring yourself to the top and *help* the world?

Or do you think that such vigilantism is meanningless and you cannot possibly change the world. Just curious about what the escapist thinks on this matter, nothing wrong with just wanting to sit back and let someone else answer the call.

Here's the scenario: you acquire a power, whichever you want, from a story or made up. You want to use this power for the good of the world. But you have to understand that you may change along the way. The ideal world you have in your head may be warped by the power, and you may turn wicked and lose friends, family, and everything else in your life. All to supposedly *save* them.

I went for the only care about myself option. Changing the world is pointless it would eventually change back into something you dont like and then ultimately have been a complete waste of time. Might aswell just use what I get to better everything for just myself, easier.

if i had the death note, id probably do some thing similar but skip all the arrogant bs that lead to his down fall. light was a complete fool, smart but lacking in all wisdom, and his arrogance cost him his life. he never had to be caught in the first place, if he just laid low and did not play his power game with L.

I would change the world for the better, but... it would be according to my definition of "better". There are some (alot) who would probably be seriously disturbed by what I would do. I would bring down everything that is "wrong" and promote what I see as "good". As for myself... maybe i'd set myself up to have a modest living somewhere, but nothing extravagant that would give me away.

Things could be really horrible in the aftermath, at least for some people. But... who knows?

I see I'm the very lonely person so far who doesn't think she could use the power effectively. I don't want a lot of power - I'd screw up. I don't want to change the world according to my own ideals. I know it's almost selfish to deny the world access to this power through me, but I still don't think that I would be able to do the right thing with that kind of power.

If I had the death note I'd just kill off criminals all over the place. Light was slow as in that series. Seriously, a couple hours on the internet and writing up in the book and BAM! A whole prison full of inmates all killing each other. Especially the pedophiles. I'm not going to bullshit and pretend I'm some form of saint either, though. I'd definitely use the book to my own advantage as well by making criminals steal money off of fat, greedy politicians and giving it to me before they then die in some horrible manner.

As for having a Geass like Lelouch, if I had that I'd just take over the world and turn everyone into my slave. And make pedophiles engage in pit fights to the death.

Although the Death Note is hardly a force of good. I mean it won't solve world hunger, for example.

If I possessed that kind of power, I would be corrupted almost instantaneously. I shall declare myself lord of all creation, mercilessly crush all resistance and live a life of decadence and debauchery until I am killed by me disgruntled subordinates. And it shall be awesome.

I went for the "The world is fine the way it is, weak lose strong win." option, not because that works, but because I wouldn't use the power because no one person could ever do anything right, hell at most only % would agree with what you are doing, the only way for the world to change is for people to change it, not just one guy doing what he thinks is best.

A lot of people would die, lets just say that.

Unlike L, there would be no voiced messages, nothing too public. The problem is if thousands of people starts dieing, most people would react the wrong way, so some messages would have to go out to calm/strike fear into the public. I'd probably travel great distances before leaving messages (typed up, no finger0prints, those kind of things) to make sure no-one ever connected it to me.

Eventually, people would be too afriad to so anything wrong...so, yeah, i guess I would just follow the path L did, but with a lot less arrogance, and a lot more sick glee at seeing the world shaped to my perception of better, which I would like to think is actually better, but, hey, I could be wrong.

Now, if we're talking something a bit more... physical, like a stand or something... I don't know. I'd wear a mask, and then go rampaging until the idiots were all dead (idiots not meaning actual idiots, but instead people I think need to die... so, actually, yeah, some of them would be idiots). Then I'd dissapear (read: I'd go home, and the mask protected my indentity).

tl;dw There's no way we can adequately determine what we'd do with such monumental power. We can say whatever we want when we don't have it.

I would probably only look out for me and mine, and everything comes after that.
