Poll: If you had to choose...

Would you take a game with the best gameplay in the world with a terrible story and terrible graphics (I don't know how this will be possible but stay with me) or a game with ok gameplay but with perfect music, plot design/story, picture perfect graphics, etc...

Hard choice for me but I think I'd go for the gameplay. Probably why I hated FFXIII (I hated the combat system and the linearity) but loved FFXII (large open world with active time battle plus you could move while bar fills up).

What about you?

Have to say gameplay
Just look at Mount&Blade series. Pretty much no story at all and I still have played them for about 200 hours

i'd go gameplay. there are games with a great story i've played a few times (e.g Killer7) but there are games with an OK story i've played loads of (e.g Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst)

gameplay can only be gotton out of games.

Huh? I though I'd see more story people here. Many people hate onm FFXII just b/c of the characters and the story.

I love a good story, but bad gameplay would just make it a JRPG.

If the story has a lot of replay value to it, I'd say story. Even the best and most entertaining gameplay tends to bore me rather quickly if there's nothing else to keep my attention - like Prototype for example. Gameplay-wise it's pretty fun with all that hopping, flying and dismembering but I only play it occasionally and for short amounts of time because neither the story nor the characters are very interesting.

But what about games that excel neither in gameplay nor in story but have something else to offer? I had a lot of fun with Morrowind for example, just because there was such a huge, open world to explore - although the combat was meh and I never touched the main quest. (Or does that count as "gameplay" too?)

A good story means nothing if I don't have the interest to keep playing through it.

I'll reluctantly go with gameplay, despite complaining on a regular basis about how much I despised Modern Warfare 2's story.

But most arcade games don't have a story, and are a lot of fun.

Gameplay, if it's story you can get a book, comic or movie. If the story relies on the game to be told, and it does it well, the gameplay will be good. Never a contest, always gameplay. Although apparently fans of console FPS games don't seem to realise this.

Just look at Bad Company! Not so good Single-player but fantatic multiplayer.

Story.

I like immersing myself in the story and being a part of it. If the story is good then it does not matter about the gameplay. This is what all the best games have going for them. Really good story lines. Then they evolve on the gameplay element.

Well if the game-play is "OK", which I will interpret as decent, I would totally go for story. No contest.

Gameplay. Though, good story is also a nice addition (Hell, Tales of Symphonia relied on both for it to be a good experience for me).

a toughy. I actually say neither. If the gameplay is horrible, I will be thrown out of the story unable to bare wrestling with the clunky controls to play
but if I'm not motivated to do anything but had perfect everything else I'd have Halo Re
I mean, a game that I'd get sick of quickly. So I guess I pick better gameplay. At least that makes it a rental for me
