What I'd want isn't listed. I'd go Army helicopter pilot. wouldn't even have to be an attack craft either. I'd be cool with a transport like a blackhawk or a chinook. I've always had a fascination with helicopters but a massive lack of desire to join the armed forces

I can't explain why, but I'd really like to be a sniper. Not because I want to be far away from anyone else with a gun, but just... because.

That poll is pretty much a joke.

So you can't be part of the Marine Corps and be a Sniper? Or part of the Marine Corps Engineer? Or a Medic on the Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Navy or Army?

Air Force Man? What the hell? Air Force has firemen, medics, pilots, mechanics, engineers, military police!

"Army Grunt"? Well, can't you be a grunt in the Marines? And AFAIK the Army does have Engineers, cooks, mechanics, etc not only grunts.

This is the perfect "This is your son's brain on CoD" advertisement. The cover has that M for a reason.

I'd prefer to be a medic. I don't think that I could stomach murdering another human being, and would much rather help other soldiers. I don't have any problem with blood or gore, so it is the ideal position for me. Besides, as per the Geneva Convention, I'm going to be protected from being shot at and captured. (within reason, obviously)
You do know that Combat Medics are issued firearms, because nobody expects that convention to be respected by insurgents, rgiht?

Not the first to mention this... but that poll shows a very obvious lack of understanding of Military Occupational Specialties.
One can be a Marine without being a grunt (at the risk of being mocked as a POG, anyway. I know, a friend of mine is a Marine 1161 [http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/1161.htm]), and one can be a grunt in the Air Force [http://www.airforce.com/careers/detail/security-forces-specialist/]. Used to work alongside some of those guys.

That said, if I had to go back... I'd avoid Army aviation this time around. I really didn't enjoy my job. FTA [http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fuck%20the%20army] was one of my mantras.
So... I guess Air Force? Throw my skills at the wall and see what sticks? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UM-wKQqBBnY]

Indeed, pretty much the only members of the military who don't go armed in combat zones are chaplains... and here's a fairly true-to-life take on them:

Sniper. Calm, stealthy, relatively safe, and you get to shoot tiny cannons that can pop someones head like a watermelon from 1Km away. Also, Australian taunting. I swear, if I ever become a sniper, I will say things like "You bloody pikers".

cook/engineer/medic

I am not willing to kill anything unless I am:

a) going to eat it.

or

b) it's trying to kill me.

From the limited poll options, I chose Cook because I enjoy cooking... however I don't think I'd enjoy the stress of cooking for hundreds of people within a strict time-frame.

If I had to join the Armed Forces, I'd be a Quartermaster. I think I'd be good at that and derive some satisfaction from doing the job to the best of my ability.

Sniper.
I have the patience and inner calm to shoot accurately over long distances provided my scope is strong enough. Snipers are usually scouts too, which would be a lot of fun. That is, in the "war really fucking sucks" area of fun-ness.

....
I don't want to be anywhere near a battle, so that nixes most of the options.
I don't like planes (except in video games) so... yeah, no.
Motor oil is gross, so not mechanic.
Blood is gross (and full of diseases!), so not a medic.

So... cook, I guess?

How about one of those USO show girls? I took a few years of ballet and jazz dance - I'm sure I could manage. Plus, I'm like a professional at giving men blue-balls. ^^ So yeah, perfect fit.

So there's mine: USO Show Girl.

No Coast Guard? They're continuously ignored, and as someone who deals with boats as a job, they do a lot of really good work.

Where is the Army Warrant Officer option? Heck, it's what I'm in the middle of applying for. Helicopters are just so cool.
You have to be an E-7 to apply for the Warrant Officer program, it would be easier to just go officer.

I'll choose a Navy Beachmaster (which I already am). It's a decent place to be during a war, we have Marine protection and are pretty unlikely to end up in combat.

Well... Coast Guard is under the Department of Transportation, not Department of Defense.

I would refuse and most likely be thrown in prison. There should be a "prison" option. No way I'm participating in some shitty war waged by some asshole in power.

Sniper; you're far, far, far away from the enemy! (Less chance to get shot)

I was a Mandarin Chinese linguist in intelligence because the army barred me from combat roles for being a woman. Hooray for all those cool support roles! I sure do like helping!

LOL at people who think they'd be good snipers. Being accurate with a rifle is really only a very small part of the job. I would suggest one of the following books for a good explanation of a sniper's role. Both were written by NCOs in sniper units, in the USMC and British Army respectively:

http://www.amazon.com/Jarhead-Marines-Chronicle-Other-Battles/dp/B001PO6BBM/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1330568078&sr=1-1

(No, NOT the film) or

http://www.amazon.com/Sniper-One-Blistering-British-Battle/dp/0141029013/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1330568161&sr=1-1

ROFLMAO at people who think Cooks don't get shot at.

Seriously? Whilst you might not be on day-to-day patrol and your chance of getting killed in a contact are pretty low, things like artillery tend to be pretty indiscriminate.
