...would you keep playing them?

It's only hypothetical, but consider that it was an indisputable fact that -

For every 1 hour you spent playing games you lost 4 hours from your total life span.

Would you still play?

And what ratio of lifespan loss to hours played would be acceptable to you?

(I suppose technically we're already happy with 1 played with 1 hour lost but it's not completely lost as you theoretically get some enjoyment out of that hour.)

The hell I'd keep playing. D:

I love my games, but I think I value my life just a tiny bit more. But not much more. ;P

I'd light a smoke and have another drink and then fire up some more Thief fan missions and get busy stealing everything that ain't nailed down.

I'll probably limit the games that I do play to only the ones that I know I will like.

Okay, but what about 1:2 ratio? Then you might only lose a few years off the end of your life. And what if you're in your 80s and can barely walk and are half blind. How do you weight up losing 3 years of a fairly unhappy time in life against a lifetime of enjoyment through games?

Oh hell yes I'd keep playing... Hell if I lost a day per hour played I wouldn't care. My body is 60 or so years ahead of me so save me the hassle later on and enjoy shit now. Just give me my HD TIE FIGHTER DAMMIT

If you told me playing 1 hour of video games ex'ed 4 hours off my lifespan....

....

... I'd ask what you were smoking and keep playing.

In all fairness, my other hobbies include computer use and TV-watching, so I figure if that was known for a fact, then everything I'm doing is slowly killing me.

But drinking and smoking can cause you to die *a certain* way (lung /liver disease, cancer etc...) so there's more reason to not over-indulge in those when you're younger.

I'm starting to think if this were true then I'd *start* playing games in my later years. As I currently plan to start drinking heavily when I'm over 75.

1 hour takes 4 hours of life away? Then no way. If it was something more reasonable like 1 hour of gaming is 1 hour of life lost then absolutely.

So I'd die around 60. I'm cool with that I don't want to have to live as an old dude. Possibly ina home. Not for me no sir.

I might dabble a bit only on occasion if it were a 1:2 ratio. I am rather confident in my health and maybe sometimes a little over confident, but I would hope that by the time I am in my 80s life wouldn't have worn me down that much.

How about I propose a question. Would you still play if family and friends knew about you wearing away your life? While that question can be a little dependent, I think it would still be something to consider. The scenario is similar, at least in my thought process, to abusing drugs. Video games provide enjoyment and thrill, and can be a great way to pass the time or have fun. Drugs can provide similar euphoria to its users. Now if videogames shortened your life span as well, they're pretty darn similar.

You know, there are these awesome things called 'books' you can use instead of a videogame.

there are also these things called Music, Art, and Movies that are pretty neat from what I hear.

(all the stuff i would do more if i couldn't game)
