How are people supposed to know you need help... in a parking lot? I mean highways and expressways sure but parking lots are usually where cars stop haha.

I'd ask if you need any sort of help like a jump or to change a tire but that's about all I know. I'm no mechanic

I would assume that you were adults that could take care of yourselves or ask for help if you needed it.

So long as you weren't covered in strange tattoos, or pierced in extremely odd places, or otherwise off-putting (if it was broad daylight, I'd be a little more lenient, but after dark, you can't be too careful), I'd stop to ask, just in case the problem was as simple as needing a jump, (I always carry cables), or a flat (I've got a jack, but the spare has to be yours), but if it was anything mechanical, I wouldn't be able to help. I'm not super good with cars, you see.

Not from here, captcha. My car doesn't work underwater, ever since that mermaid got her tail stuck in my tailpipe.

How cold is it?

Really, though, I wouldn't be able to help, because I know nothing about anything related to car problems.

But I would, y'know, maybe call a tow truck for you or something, assuming you didn't have a phone.

I'd at least ask. Unless I was in a hurry/late for something. Then you're on your own! :p
You wouldn't want me helping you. I'm that guy that appears out of no where with the rusty tire iron in my shaking hand asking you in a hoarse raspy voice. (because of the cold)

"Having trouble?"

Then I grin slightly. Whatever you say next I will laugh slightly at. (because I get nervous around strangers)

But of course you don't know that so all you get is a shaking man with a metal object as rusty as his voice staring at you and laughing.

Had a flat tire out in the middle of nowhere, was in the process of changing it out for the spare when the factory approved jack for the car snapped clean in half. Fortunately none of my limbs were near the thing or under the car.

Fortunately there was a long metal rod nearby I could use as a lever and enough solid objects to brick the thing up, because not one person on the semi busy highway even slowed during the hour it took to finish the job with that handicap.

I would stop. I don't know a whole lot about cars, but I do know at least how to jump start an engine. I'd at least offer that.

Although, I probably wouldn't stop if it was on a major highway/freeway. As much as I would like to help, its a bit too dangerous.

See, now I'm from a city. If I was broken down and I saw someone pull up behind me who wasn't a cop, I'd be instantly on guard. You are a threat until I know otherwise. I know other people in my area will pretty much think the same. It also doesn't help that my car looks like an absolute POS. I actually can help with some problems. I got tools, jumper cables, and a gas can in my car, but I have to be sure that I won't be seen as a threat and that who I'm helping is a threat.

I don't know anything about cars, so unless they actually ask for some simple help (cables, fuel, etc.), I wouldn't stop.

Well when I worked on a car boot I had to help cars that were broken down or couldn't get off the wet grass, so yeah I'd probably help.

Well if I had jumpers with me then I'd probably stop, but otherwise not so much. It has nothing to do with not wanting to help, I just don't know anything about vehicles. :S

Not without first being asked, because:

1. I know so very little about the inner workings of a car. Even if all I would have to do is jump (which I've done before), I wouldn't know that's all I would have to do.

2. Diffusion of responsibility [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffusion_of_responsibility]

After being asked, probably sure assuming you aren't super sketchy looking.

Also the quality of the location would have some say on how likely I'd be willing to help.
