Poll: If you were a superhero would you kill criminals?

A lot of variables.

It depends if I'm powered or not. I'm pretty sure I'd eventually dehumanize if I had awesome powers and end up killing accidentally/apathetically.

Eg. "Oops" after shattering a human skull with a punch.

If I wasn't powered, I would avoid killing (rubber bullets and less lethal stuff) but I would accept that someone may die, kill if it meant my life or an innocents.

I would carry lots of gadgets, even if I had powers though.

I'd kill only to save a life... well, 'innocent' life, at least. I wouldn't personally kill a villain (well, perhaps repeat offenders, like The Joker), but if they needed help, I would let them rot.

You're not reading, are you? In what way would I waste money on rapists or murderers? I believe they should repay their debt to society, that includes any resources spent on keeping them from doing more harm.

You have to waste money on them in order for them to repay their debt to society, you can't have them be taken care of by the government with out it costing people money, and you would always have to have something for them to live in, and food for them to eat. You say you want them to repay their debts but have you thought of how they would do that? What exactly would they do to repay their debts, there is no proper way for them to repay the life of a human, nor is there away for them to remove the mental damage caused by a rape.

Then they'll have to work to pay off the cost to keep them locked up, and they'll have to keep working until they either find a way to repay the life of a human, or the mental daage caused by rape, or fail in doing so by dying. The easy parts will be done first, property damage, medical bills, psychology bills, living quarters, guard payment, etc. After that's taken care off, they'll have to start making amends to the victim, until such time as the victim deems him/herself repaid. This would of course be on the victims terms, as well.

I would kill drug dealers, rapists and murderers, and well anyone I couldn't reform to be a functioning member of society, or anyone who disagrees with my methods, or those who mocked me or stood in my way. You know what, I would make a better super-villain. I would kill for no reason at all.

I wouldn't trust myself with super powers. I know me, and I know that I'd end using the Rorschach method to criminal deterrence...

Im pretty sure Batman doesn't kill is because that is the only thing seperating him from the people he's after. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

Pretty much, he always struck me as a psychotic thug with morals getting rid of psychotic thugs without morals.

The means don't seem to justify the end, what would you do if they refused to work? How would you get society to accept this plan and want to move forward with it, there seem to be to many what ifs with them dead you don't have to worry about bureaucracy fumbling about.

But they still don't deserve to die. If they refuse to work, we'll just stop sending in food.

And I don't really care if society accepts it, wether society wants them dead or not, they don't deserve to die. They have to pay back first, after that, you can do whatever the hell you want. But first they repair the damage they've done.

Oh. I see where the problem lies. I use the other meaning of the word deserve. I don't think they have the RIGHT to die before they have repaid their debt. That's why I want to keep them alive. Killing them solves the problem of recurring crime, sure, but it doesn't solve the crimes they've already comitted. When their debt is payed off, they can go off themselves, or be executed for all I care. Let whatever diety you subscribe to judge them in the afterlife, but not after they're done here. It's not about who's hands the blood is on. It's about their debts.

And no, in some cases they can't ever repair the damage they've done. Then they'll just have to keep trying.

And no, they wouldn't be my slaves. I'd almost argue that they wouldn't be slaves at all, but since they wouldn't be working for me, and I wouldn't be the one getting anything out of it, except my medical bills paid, if they had caused me the damage.

Yes. Yes I would. Then I would resurrect the dead and enslave them to my will to punish them in the afterlife. I will then use my undead thralls to patrol the streets and have my influence upon the streets at all times so that all criminals will eventually serve their master--I mean, their city. Now only to work out the thought police and process.

But really, I would only kill in the extreme cases. If I already stopped a rapist, murderer, or a drug lord, there'd really be no need for me to kill him/her since they're already off to jail for the rest of their natural life.

I wouldn't kill but then again I would make sure they wouldn't be able to break the law again but that would only be in extreme cases such as a rapist

I'd only kill the really annoying ones, but definitely not the interesting ones. What's a superhero without a worthy archnemesis? Nothing! Just look at Mystery Men.

If it was kill the bad guy or the innocent person dies then I'd kill the bad guy. Other than that I would not kill people. Thieves and gangsters are still fathers, husbands, brothers and sons so killing them would lead to me being worse than them. A mass murderer who kills people who "deserve" it are still mass murderers.

No, I wouldn't kill anyone. It's questionable whether I'd even turn them into the police.

Whenever I picture myself as I superhero I see a slightly overweight 40-year-old wearing a black suit and rain jacket, with a cane that also serves as an umbrella. He's got a stereotypical English black bowler cap and a posh accent. He's flys at bad guys, boxes them about the ears while repeatedly saying "I don't like the cut of your jib!", and then flys off for tea and a nap.

Hard to imagine that guy accomplishing much of anything. Certainly not murder.

Personally, I would kill Rapists and murderers. I would have to analyse the situation myself first of course, some females call rape far too easily, and murder, so long as it wasn't at all accidental.
Petty criminals get a warning, and by golly they better pay heed or else they'll find themselves recieving what they do to their victims.

Or I might just do what they do wrong to others, back to them. The old saying, an eye for an eye.
