Aeris only really went after Cloud because he reminded her of Zack. Tifa actually knew him and cared for him for who he was underneath all the bs.

"Advent Children" which according to the producers was a canon ending for the series made Tifa the canon ending as they were together. Cloud was kind of broken due to the death of Aeris despite he resurgence to take down Sepiroth so undergoes a very similar arc where he needs to regain his confidence to start doing the hero thing again. The climax involves Cloud defeating a resurrected Sepiroth before being taken down by one of the other Advent Children in his last gasp, he enters the life stream and meets the spirits of Aeris and Zack and sees them happy and manages to forgive himself, then the life stream returns him to life and he finally retires to be with Tifa who he was otherwise living with (it's not specified if their relationship was platonic or not up until that point).
The movie had some almost painfully goofy spots, but was beautifully animated and had some incredible final fight scenes when Cloud finally gets his head back in the game.
That said I'd likely make the same choice. I can see why he was falling for Aeris, and Yuffie would be a fun girlfriend, but I'm not sure if he'd have done well with either of them, he has better Chemistry with Tifa, and to be sort of honest Cloud has some definite recurring psychological issues linked to his self worth, Tifa seems willing to deal with that, but I think Aeris and Cloud who have similar problems at times would probably have a bad ending by feeding off each other, and I think personality clashes would decimate any serious relationship with Yuffie. Besides as odd as it sounds I seem to remember it being implied somewhere that Yuffie and Vincent might have a thing going

I'd say Tifa, too, for all of the reasons Mister K mentioned above. They always had untold feelings for one another since they were kids. Cloud's were just suppressed in the first half of the game by the trauma from Hojo's experiments. The only visible reason why he would be attracted to Aeris was because of his compromised mental state taking on Zach's personality as Zack told Cloud about many things he cared about during their escape. Yuffie, as much as I've seen of her in the entire Compilation, would probably only go as far as that loyal, but annoying, friend in the group.
Though, I'd glad a few people mentioned Barret, since the game had him as a (joke) option for the Gold Saucer date. How come he wasn't in the poll? Marlene needs a mommy.

Hands down, I'd go with Tifa for a couple of reasons
First: not only is she hot enough to melt cheese, she's also a skilled enough in martial arts to fight robots, monsters and gods with her bare hands and win! What can i say, I dig the Valkyrie bitches.
Second: Getting together with Tifa shows that Cloud is able to move on and actually be happy for once in his life instead of turning into the mopey emo douche from Advent Children and KH.

This happens at the end of disc 2 start of disc three. Where Cloud and Tifa are sitting together on the bluff with the Highwind airship behind them. They assume everyone has taken off and it will just be them against Sephiroth. The screen fades to black and when you once again return to the Highwind bridge everyone tells you that they saw Tifa and Cloud, then Tifa runs to the front of the window and tries to hide her embarassment. The degree of her reaction is depending on how many affection points with Tifa you have at this point. But with max points it is strongly implied that they shagged away their final night together.DrOswald said:

Tifa. She's pretty much the only one who does care about Cloud in any real capacity of romance. Also, damn she sticks by him like a mother fucker. And I can dig that; actually I do dig that. She's surprisingly a bit demure from what I remember of my last playthrough, but she's strong enough when it counts.

Another vote for Tifa. I think she's the prettiest and she's arguably the most fleshed-out characters, so from what is known about her, I'd say she's the best girlfriend material.
Definitely Tifa. She's been Cloud's friend since childhood, provides his biggest moral support through the game, and personally, I think she's hotter

Yuffie was a no-good thief, I was mad for hours that I couldn't kill or at least banish her for taking all my materia.
