Lore-ically, Crosses don't work, nor does Garlic.
And silver is only as effective as it is pointy/explodey.

First, vampires are not immortal, they just won't die of old age. They can die or even kill themselves if they get overly tired of life.

So the fear of immortality is really not a reason to say no.

If being a vampire made you automatically evil and selfish then I would say no. If you kept control of yourself but just had strong cravings for blood....I would probably say yes, and then train myself to be a vampire hunter (If I was a vampire there would be others out there preying on people).

In fact, I would probably search out other mortals who I could trust with a similar belief and make them vampires as well, so we would have a posse of vampire, vampire hunters. We would roam the earth killing vampires everywhere we found them until there were no more vampires and then together we would see one last sunrise, our reward for a job well done.

Why not? There are no real cons to this arrangement. I don't go outside, can't afford silver and I don't tend to trespass very often (question: Does this include all land owned, or just the physical domicile? I don't really mind either way, but it would be nice to know if I'm allowed to leap from rooftop to rooftop or not.)

I don't need daylight hours, and hate garlic anyway. I could use the various associated superpowers, though. So, yes, I would. In a heart ----.
Even with the damned soul thing? That's pretty universal to Vampire lore.
I don't believe in a soul but even if there is a soul who you are is made up of your experiences....and honestly if you continue to remember your past experiences after death then we are all immortal anyway (which I do not want to be...and considering how many people in this thread list that as a reason to not be a vampire neither do many others).

In fact, some of the lore states a vampire dies a final death when it is destroyed unlike humans who have a soul. So if being a vampire meant I would not continue on after I was destroyed/died I would become one no matter what....evil or not. Because honestly nothing is as evil to me as forcing sentient creatures to exist for eternity.

I'd do it. I could live without sun, but losing apple pie would be a bit sad. Worth it I think though.

Not really. To many major downsides if you ask me. Now if you said werewolf, that would be a entirely different story...
out of interest, why? being a werewolf would be horrible. I mean very few advantages over a regular human apart from once a month you turn into a wolfman and kill everything you see/smell/hear.

OT: If i did i would probably go the 'take what you need' route and not kill people if i could help it, or steal from a blood bank or something, i suppose i could deal with the lack of sunlight, not like you need the warmth when your already dead.

EDIT: forgot about the bit that involved being damned and all, bit of a game changer really, since we are going for old school vampires it would probably be a deal with the devil i guess, so it's not like you could deny your souls existence, i guess i'd give it a miss then.

I barely go outside during daylight hours I freaking hate garlic.

Being immortal sounds pretty darn awesome so Yes I would totally do it.

Hell no. I'm like a flower, I require sunshine to live.

Also, garlic is my favourite food ingredient. I put it in everything.

I'm drawn, but I'll go with yes. Garlic is nice, but honestly, if you kind find another tasty flavouring, you're in trouble. Plus the daylight thing... would be awkward, but I could live around it. Black out blinds etc. Nowadays you can pay rent etc via internet, which is fantastic

A definite yes from me. With modern day technology most of the bad points of being a vampire are sort of moot. I would use my immortal life to make millions on the stock market and then use that money to create a dome like structure that simulates a beach environment. I can't prove this but I have heard a similar thing already exists in a country like russia where it is generally cold and snowy most of the time. Then I would simply live there during the day and at night I would go out.

As for garlic I really don't like it anyway, and well silver tbh the chances of coming across anything made of pure silver now days is practically non existant. Everything is generally an alloy of at least 3 or more elements. Apart from occaisional jewlerry etc.

Drinking human blood would be easy as you could just steal it or buy it from blood banks if you don't like the idea of killing humans. But tbh I think a vampire killing humans would just be like a human killing other "lesser" animals. I have no problem knowing animals die in order to provide me with the food I need to live a healthy life so, although my point of view might change were I actually faced with the situation, I can't see why I would care about killing humans to eat were I a vampire. Hmm I have thought about this way to much ><

It's a tough one, I'd ask if it's possible to defer it for ten to twenty years, right now I'm twenty, I don't have a job and I have hit my prime physically. I wouldn't want to be stuck like I'm now and have no money.

Depends... can I pull a Loophole Abuse and become a Dhampir like Blade? All of the strengths with none of the weaknesses. :p

If not... I dunno. No. Unless there was a Loli Vampire to keep me company through the centuries. :p

Are we talking about a souless demon who feeds on innocents, or an immortal guy who likes his steak extra rare?

I wouldnt mind having the weaknesses too much, but I would mind the whole killing people thing.

Knowing myself, I'd probably starve to death rather than kill innocents just for the sake of prolonging my own existence.

That and the many drawbacks would kill it for me.

Well...depends. If I could be a vampire in this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W42k2vgY_t4] particular mythos...then count me in.

Bram Stoker Vampire, yes, despite the whole frequent feeding thing, I could live with it.

Twilight Vampire, dear God no.

I think it's fair to say I'm undecided.
