I used to play on PC but I got bored of all the "install game" and "insert CD Key" crap. Now with xbox I can buy cheap games that are used for like 5 bucks and not find out I needed a cd key or something that I can't cause it's used

That's weird. You'd think that would be something they'd add, not take away.
Apparently it was too expensive to keep an integrated PS2 inside the machine along with the necessary PS3 functions, and Sony were already recieving enough flak for their newest console being overpriced so they had to do something to cut costs.

But I agree. Thankfully I still have a working PS2 to play my extensive library of PS2 titles on, and if that one broke down I'd most likely buy a PS2 slim-version to replace it. But it would have been handy to be able to play all my playstation titles from each respective console on one single machine.

Though backwards compability is something of an issue, even with the PS2. You might think that the PS2 is backwards compatible, but I can attest to that not being the case. For instance, if you try to play Metal Gear Solid (platinum version) on it, the game works fine. But once you reach the credits roll and wait for the end screen where you get to see your results (and also getting the rewards like stealth camouflage and the infinite ammo bandana) the game freeze up in a black screen. This because the text of the credits roll aren't synchronized with the background footage and music, so one finishes before the other causing some kind of glitch.

On the regular playstation this doesn't happen. So in order to guarantee that you can play wahtever game you buy, you pretty much have to own a version of all three consoles if you want to avoid nasty surprises like that.

Are they going to make a usb addon that plays ps2 discs? Another thing scaring my friend away from sony is that both of us are under the impression that they're going to start selling ps2 games on psn rather than bringing back BC. My friend would be unlikely to use the other os feature but the fact that they do seem to take away more features than they add is a big negative point.
That would be an awesome addon for the PS3. A USB player of some kind with an installation of necessary software to play and the necessary hardware needed to play PS2 games on your PS3 would be a must buy for me.

Another USB addon I'd like to have is a PS3 compatible dongle for internet connection. I've been playing on my PS3 without any internet connection at all since I don't have a normal line at home but only wireless internet. I've tried to connect it through my computer but have never had any success. Also, it's a bit of a ***** if you want to bring your ps3 over to a friend who have different internet connection than you because if you want to use online features of any game you have to re-configure your settings according to your friends connection.

Also in regards to connection speed, we do have telecom companies advertising wireless 4G modems now. Getting a wireless connection to work with necessary speed shouldn't be much of an issue.

So if Sony could do some kind of joint venture with Huawei or one of the larger telecom/internet providers and produce a simple USB-application to get an internet connection straight to your console wirelessly without having to go through the hassle of configure the router of your home computer and all that bullshit, it would be awesome.

Well I had a look on the Onlive website and it seems you get free membership and can play free demos on it. I can't use it because of my pitiful 1Mb/s connection, but why not tell your friend to see how well the free demos play on his PC?

I suspect that, at the moment, Onlive shines mainly as way to play free demos, since you do not have to wait for a big download before playing. You can also buy 3 or 5 day passes for much less than the full cost of the game, which is an interesting idea.

The real downer is that there are only a few dozen games available. Unless your friend is a real lightweight he'll probably want another gaming rig. That doesn't mean he should ignore Onlive completely, but he should avoid the Onlive console until the catalogue gets bigger.

Between me and my brother we own all the current gen systems and the only system I have not touched in over 2 years is the Wii. The last game I played to completion was Twilight Princes and there have been no games that interested me since.
