I'm not allowed to change mine.

I've been told that if that were ever to happen, there would be rioting in the streets.

People would die.

Do you want people to die?

I don't.
Well you could use that photo of yourself from when the community roasted you. Of course, we'd need to edit out the tears...

Back on topic though, don't feel pressured to stick to the same avatar day in and day out just because you're worried about recognition. Hell, half the fun is throwing people on your friends list out of the loop and catching them off guard.

In an old browser game I used to frequent, I made it a point of never keeping the same avatar (or name for that matter) for more than a week, sometimes jumping to a different one every few hours. It was loads of fun and even encouraged me to get creative when I finally found out about GIMP. Then someone had to go and ruin it by memorizing my player ID and spreading it around (still kept up the charade though).

It takes more than a simple avatar change to receive true recognition on this website.

I change my avatars often, and I'm usually recognized as "that guy with the terrifying avatars of doom."

Including this one.

ESPECIALLY this one.

I don't change my avatar very often at all. Had the same one since I joined up, then a few days ago someone suggested that everyone change their avatar to a parody (or direct copy) of Daystar's. So I went ahead and changed mine to a pony version of Amaterasu for a day. Problem is, my old avatar was a pic on my old computer. Unable to find said pic again (that is, too lazy to find it), I went ahead and changed it to what it currently is, which is basically an upgraded version of my old one. :p

Long story short: I doubt anyone gives a damn about my avatar in the first place, so I'll be amazed if they give a damn about that story I just told. :p

I stick to a theme of taco-based avatars, such as Daft Tacos pictured to your left. You have way more freedom with choice of avatar, yet have a consistency, if you have a motif like me!

I know psychic, the motif works for you. I can't stop staring at Daft Taco, it's glorious. I anticipate a futuristic version of this at one of their shows.

Where did that guy go with the avatar from that one hard-ass game...there's a dude roasting a marshmallow at a campfire in his avatar I think?

I've had the Black Mesa logo since I joined, and I like to tell myself that I keep it as such because people recognize me for it.

The truth is though, I'm lazy and often not fond of change.

Hmmm...I'm actually not sure. You may want to ask Zombie fish though!

I'm not a community celebrity like Daystar or Fappy, so I change mine when I want to. I just don't normally because it throws ME off.

No, the recognition factor isn't really a concern for me. I usually just can't be bothered to change my avatar. Once I find one I like I usually stick with it for a looooooooooong time. Although recently I've been toying with the idea of changing it to a Majin Buu avatar.

I don't have to worry about that so much. As long as purple is involved and it either involves a mage or maybe something fantasy magic style, then it's branded Pebkio.

Because I am the Purple Mage.

I'm trying out the symbol look for now. Might switch to a new Purple Mage as soon as I can hobble one together.

I'm never changing my avatar though, so hmpph. Get off my lawn

I settle on an avatar, and then stick with it for a long time.
Because really, I'm Fappy, and I'm the best. My choice in avatars is best. Cats.
Daystar has nothing on me.
This is 100% truth.

Daystar is a hate-filled bigot who would condemn my fellow bronies. Fappy is a caring ruler who accepts my kind.

All hail Fappy! All hail Fappy!
Yes. Hail me. Damn Daystar.
He is small, like babby. I am a great, kind ruler, who loves ALL the ponies, and cats. Especially cats.
Because really, a Fappy cat is better than a Daystar mongrel any day.
Especially when it comes to avatars.
Does it disturb you that I read your post in this voice?

OT: I resisted changing my racist Michael Scott avatar for a long time because of recognition, but Kirk slapping himself silly is a far more memorable choice. I already got one PM about it.

Well, I can't really give a reply, because, generally speaking, I'm not active enough on forums to ever gain any sort of recognition. I usually join, so a few things every once and a while, and then just read what other people say. I find that, most of the time, when I try to comment regularly, I usually say something stupid that makes people laugh at me and/or something that somehow pisses someone off, and then I get into a big long argument with them about it, and then I get sick of it and give them the last word, and then I just don't feel like saying anything[\i] anymore...

Where was I going with this...?
Oh, right. Well, I would think that after you established some kind of personality, (i.e (s)he really likes this, really dislikes that, is prone to making silly puns, always uses words I don't really understand, etc. etc.), people will start to know you for that. But in the short time I've been here, I'm starting to recognize people by their avatars, so I think your concern there is pretty understandable.

Bottom line: keep it consistent until you rack up a respectable post count and gain some notoriety, then change it all you want. (If you were a total d-bag, you wouldn't even have to worry about the post count: people tend to recognize the d-bags faster, because they know enough to avoid them/know how to goad them into going off on long and amusing rants).

CAPTCHA: no stinkin badges
Captcha's right: you could also sign off with a catchphrase every time you make a post. I don't know how many people know The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, but I guarantee a lot more know the (misquoted, thank you very much Blazing Saddles) line about badges.

I've switched out a few times, but I'm starting to settle with the Brian Firenzi gif. People seem to like it the most, and he's a bit lesser known.

I change my avatars quite often but they were usually to Vegeta. I just got bored with it and thought 'fuck it' and changed it to Shadow this time though :p

I like to think people recognise me and not just my avatar. Right guys? Guys?

Hey, has anyone seen Hazy?
