Film companies have money, I don't. I buy things from companies/artists I like. I'm not proud of it but I don't hate myself for it either. I don't buy DVDs that were filmed in the cinema, that's low.

And fuck those adverts.

Those adverts really ARE brilliant. And catchy. Not sure if they have the impact that any anti-pirate hopes for, though.
No. Bad. BAD! If anything they make me want to Pirate more just to teach them a lesson.

You wouldn't steal a car, you wouldn't steal a baby, you wouldn't shoot a policeman, then steal his helmet, you wouldn't go to the toilet in his helmet, and then send it to the policemans greiving widow, and then steal it again.

film piracy IS stealing, if you do it, you will face the consequences!

I used to pirate things but I don't anymore, now that I have enough money to buy them, and I prefer having hard copies of DVDs and the like.

I'm none too happy about the "don't steal this please" ads we get in movies and on DVDs these days, but I don't blame the theatres and studios for that; if we didn't have wankers trying for free thrills, we wouldn't have those anyway. And then the cheap bastards have the cheek to say they're sticking up for the little guys... I wonder how many of these "Nigels" have actually written or filmed anything worth putting on someone else's screen?

I have written for pay, and let me tell you, piracy hurts the little guys who work on these things. No money to the studios means no money to the artists, which means artists (like me) find other ways to get groceries.

So screw yourselves, ya cheap bastards, and I hope the next guy to see your warez is your proctologist.

for nearly a year i thought i've been alone in my anti piracy rants. it's good to have freinds.

moving on, it's a real problem. people are stealing things and justifying it. every time i come into a piracy thread everyone tells me the same things: "It's ok because if i like it, i'll buy it later", or "artists should be doing it for the love". both of which make sense on the surface, unless of course you go deeper. If you can get something for free, you will. it's as simple as that. your standards improve as you decide what is worth paying for and what is not. eventually nothing will reach your eatheral standards and you'll just pirate everything. in which case you probably should have STOPPED WATCHING MOVIES.

as for doing for the love, apply that to any other carrer in the world. it doesn't really work, does it?

Who says I wouldn't or haven't? :D

Also, I don't think they'd care as long as they kept the originals, which they do. The thing about piracy is that it's not as simple as most companies want you to think.

Is it stealing? No, not really, I don't deprive anyone of it so I can have it, it's closer to plagiarism.

On the other hand, if I'm not planning to buy a game, the company looses -NOTHING- if I download it.

People that buy things illegally wont see that stuff anyway, just the posters. There is no point in putting them inside LEGALLY brought DVDs like they were.

Because so many people are downloading stuff the industry's are too afraid to take risks. Instead of releasing something that might change the way we see the world OR it might suck and sell poorly, they are only releasing games/artists/movies that are going to sell well. I read something that said the aussie gaming industry looses 200+ jobs a year (read the qld state library newsletter, the one with 'game on' on it for the exact figures). Now this is 200 more people that could make games better, not to mention the money they loose.

Piracy IS hurting the industry. When your paying $180 for Halo Reborn, buying Chris Browns greatest hits and going to the movies and watching 'Ass' all I will say is "Booyah! I was right!'

my problem with the Ad is who buys pirated movie? when you can download them for free, otherwise you might as well just buy the Retail version if you're going to spend money anyway

Not true. Game companies are to blame. They hyped up graphics to push the latest technology so much that now general society hates on games that don't cost $300 million to produce. It would be impossible to make sales to support that level of frivoulous spending regardless of piracy.

At least being a Knockoff Nigel isn't as bad as throat cut by Nazi Pig-Mutants! [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wssfl22Hhp4]

Was that really a genuine advert broadcast in America?

No it's not acceptable, but the problem is policing piracy is a farce.

I'm willing to bet almost every average member of the public has a copy of a film that isn't legit knocking around somewhere, and I know for a fact even the police are guilty of piracy.
