I also had a vivid imagination (when I was a kid, dunno where it's gone now...) and I found that if I imagined something zombies attacking my house (after playing Half-Life) I could just imagine gordon freeman with a shotgun and everything was fine... so use your imagination to imagine something that's even scarier than Slenderman, and imagine it protecting you... Like a Big Daddy or somthn'

I would recommend going out for a walk. You need to get away from your computer, and away from all of the things you have associated with this.

As long as there are other people are around, that can help, being alone doesn't

Hah, that's nothing. I'm fairly certain a UFO or something landed outside my house the other day. Completely defies logic but I know what I saw.
What? How dare you accuse me of landing my spaceship in your backyard, why that's absolutley-

Uhhhh I mean, a UFO??? How absurd.

On Topic:
I too once had this problem, in fact it was at worst when I first saw Pet Sematary and started refusing to go to sleep until first light at around four in the morning, before which I just tried to sit and watch happy videos on youtube.
Also I had a mild freakout after seeing Paranormal Activity, though it didn't last long because I was better prepared the second time around. The trick is to spend all day being active, then read hilarious books and watch some DVD's but above all else do not conciously remind yourself that you are just doing this to get your mind off of whatever spooked you, because if you do that then inevitably the thoughts of whatever it is you are afraid of will resurface as you've drawn a connection between them and whatever you were doing to distract yourself from them.
That's my experiance anyway.

Grow some balls.

I don't know what spooked me, but when I was about 6 I was so scared at night that I would just curl into a ball under the blanket and couldn't sleep. This lasted for a while until I grew some balls and told myself "I will not let this shit beat me" and forced myself to sleep lying on my back with my head outside the safety of the blanket. In the morning I woke up well rested and unafraid.

Nowadays I'm not scared of anything.

True story.

Candle Cove is pretty weak as ceepypasta goes. HAven't seen the video though, but the creepypasta alone is not scary at all.

Still, it's normal to get scared no matter your age, so that's my vote.

Dude. I have on thing to say to you: Under NO circumstances should you watch paranormal activity. If you get scared easily like that then that movie will give you the ultimate insomnia.

Some advice, just watch the most kid friendly show imaginable, the more annoying and meant for younger kids it is, the better, and dance around a flame while chanting the birthday song, you'll be visited by Casper: the friendly ghost and he'll grant you two wishes so long as you dedicate your eternal soul to him. That always worked for me.

But seriously, just watch TV and go to bed after 24 hours of not sleeping, you'll be fine.

You know the jedi saying (at least, I think it's jedi) "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate,[sub] something else...[/sub]" Try going immediately to anger, "oh god, don't kill me" isn't as effective as "BRING IT ************" when facing one's fears as far as I know. A better option may be to think "wouldn't it be awesome if [insert imaginary horror] were real?" Being that it probobly isn't and that the increasingly loud tapping may just be an ordinary knife-wielding maniac kindof dampens the whole "terror" thing for me.

You wanna know about how to defeat fear? Play Earthbound, all the way through. It's like a pilgrimage of courage.

Okay, I will tell you one thing.

I do a morning paper round. In this paper round is an apartment building.

I am scared shitless of the stairwell round the back of this apartment. I feel claustrophobic, feel like there's something around every corner, there's no natural light, loads of corners and crannies, things like that. This is because I had a bad dream involving creepy things in an area suspiciously like it.

No, I don't know how to get over it, but I do know my paper round times have considerably improved because of it.

Just associate it with something stupid. For example, it's hard to be scared of the Slender Man when you immediately think of Wilt from Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends

EEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I... erm... *manly throat clear*

Now, every time I am spooked by Slender Man, Wilt will come and decapitate him.

Right so lately I'e been having a lot of trouble trying to sleep. A couple days ago I read a creepypasta called Candle Cove (if you haven't read it and are easily scared, do NOTlook it up) and, as scared as I was, I stupidly Youtube'd it and watched the video. (again, not advised). And again, in another rousing act of stupidity, I looked up Slenderman and what not. Creepypasta and everything.

And now, I am petrified of my own Goddamn shadow.

I've always been a bit of a fraidy cat. When I was 11, I watched the film adaptation of IT and I was so scared I couldn't sleep for weeks. A couple years before that, I snuck downstairs to watch Nightmare on Elm Street and I woke up with nightmares for months afterwards. But now, a somewhat cynical 19 year old lad is petrified of a story he knows is made up. Thing is, it's started to affect my health. I stay up till all hours awake in bed, jolting at every flipping thing that goes bump in the night. I can't be at my house on my own, even during the day.

Can The Escpaist offer anything that might help ease my touble? I know it sounds so stupid, but I could really do with som advise. I know it's ridiculous, believe me, I keep telling myself the very same thing.

And to all you other fraidy cats out there, have you ever been like this before? Did you find a way to deal with it? And if so, helpa brother out?

EDIT: Crap! Wrong area of discussion, coulda Mod move it for me?
I get afraid, then I realise it's not real and just nod off... just put on your favorite music while you're in bed and then sleep.

I decided to look up Candle Cove and now I'm on Youtube watching nothing but static. Care to explain?

Edit: Never mind, I just read it. It's not that scary really.
