Poll: I'm torn between a PS3 and PS4

So, I've been looking at getting a PS3. One of my favorite games ever is about to get a spruced up rerelease with new (well, for Americans) content and a fresh coat of paint (Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD), and I really really really want to be able to play it. This means, of course, getting a PS3.

To go along with this, I've been looking at the library the PS3 offers and there are a surprising number of games that perk my interest (The Last of Us, InFamous, God of War, Journey, etc.) as well as games I loved back on the PS2 that were rereleased in HD (Jak and Daxter Collections, Ratchet & Clank Collections, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD soon).

Here's my problem, though; I also plan on getting a PS4 down the line, but not at the moment since their are no games. Also, I can't really justify owning them both. It would be cluttered and dumb. Hence my dilemma.

So, here's the question; do I go ahead and get a PS3, or get a PS4 and wait for games? Or perhaps I should wait and see if PS Now is worth a damn as a service?

I would also like to take a moment and point out that this dilemma would not be happening if Sony had just decided to include backwards compatibility with the PS4, the jerks.

Get a PS3, I can't stress this enough. While if PS Now works perfectly, it's still honestly better to just get the actual system that plays the games itself I say. So for now, get the PS3 and wait down the line to get a PS4. I'm waiting to get one later on, but that's mainly for Kingdom Hearts 3 and when they patch in the support for HD Capture Cards because while Sony's built in one is surprisingly good (I've used it before), I'd rather record with my own capture card and run it through a more complex editor like Adobe or Sony Vegas.

Get a PS3 or neither. There is no reason to get a console with no games that you want to play. By the time it DOES have games you want, it may be a lot cheaper.

I got my own PS3 this Christmas after only being able to intermittently steal my brother's. I was a PC gamer before, but I've really, really been enjoying it, for what that may be worth.

Depends upon how much gaming you do and money you have.

PS4: $400 gets you the console, controller, and you can start messing with free apps.
PS3: $400, if you shop carefully, gets you console, controller, PS+ for a year, 1/2 dozen downloadable games and 1/2 dozen classics.

Play the stuffing out of it, and then sell it if you like, use money toward a PS4 after a price break in about 18 months and they have a game or two you must have.

But if you got some money? Get the PS4, PS+ for a year, download Outlast and get a few of their games that are out now. I have Assassin's Creed 4 and it is beautiful. Get a Vita and do remote play. Use the same account as is on the PS4 and download about a 1/2 dozen free games that come for the Vita with that PS+ card.

NOTE: PS+ games stop working if you let the account lapse.

Should keep you busy (if not broke). You owe it to yourself to have a premium experience if you can afford it.

BTW: My prediction: PS NOW will be fine. It should work at least as well as Live. I watched a video of a guy playing state of the art games on a crappy notebook computer. Played fine. I played on an Android tablet. It was fine.

Speaking from experience, get a PS3. I got mine last August. You can purchase all the GOTY Editions for the best games on the console, as well as all kinds of cool bundles, all pretty cheap at this point. Games like Assassin's Creed 4 run fine on the PS3 as well though I suppose it can't compete against PS4 graphics. The problem with the PS4 at this point would be price and a poor gaming library, not to mention you'll miss out on all the awesome games from this generation (unless you've been gaming on Xbox? In which case you're missing out on the Sony exclusives, some of which are great).

My vote, get a PS3 or wait further down the line for a PS4.

That should make your decision right there. Hell, if you just play the R* games, Bethesda games, and the Borderlands games (all worth checking out) the ps4 will go through a couple of rice drops before you're done.

Also, going by your taste OP, you shouldn't miss Valkyria Chronicles.

As somebody who's getting a PS3 soon, get a PS3. It simply has a massive library right now, will continue to be supported for a little while, the online is free and most importantly, it's cheaper.

If there aren't any games that are out now or will be out soon (that you want to get) on the PS4 it's not worth getting.

Nailed it. Nailed with a sledge hammer.

I see an occasional PS4 setting on the shelf at my work every now and then and I get excited. Shiny new toy, but then I remember that there is nothing on it that I want to play, and nothing on the horizon that I want to play. And it's driving me nuts. I really want a PS4, but I'm not paying $400 for a paper weight. And with the PS3 still getting amazing games (Dark Souls II, the Final Fantasy X collection and the Kingdom Hearts 2 collection), there is really no reason yet to get a PS4.

So right. If the rumors about PS Now or whatever they're calling it turn out to be true, then I shall forgive, but right now I feel your pain.

After I read I your post, I hopped over to amazon real quick to see what $400 could get me with my prime membership.

250 GB PS3 bundled with The Last of Us: 250
Dark Souls: 15
InFamous Collection: 30
Jak & Daxter Collection: 20
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix: 30
PS+ 1 Year Subscription: 50
Total: 395

Damn. I think that just made my decision for me, and I also realized that support for the PS3 isn't going to just drop dead in the next week.
Thanks for the help!

If you have a 5Mbps internet connection, I'd wait to see if PS Now is going to fulfill your needs (ie. a good service with access to the games you want). It's expected to roll out by Q3 and the PS3 and it's library of games isn't going anywhere in that time.

Glad I could help. PS+, last I looked, comes with Remember Me, Uncharted 3, Borderlands 2, Pay Day 2, and more. I'm certain you'll have a lot of fun. I'd heard the PS3 will be supported till at least 2017, by which time, PS4 will have had a price drop and get some great games.

Why aren't you getting a ps3 now and a ps4 later? It really doesn't make sense to me. It's not like the ps4 is backwards compatible or anything, so of course you should get a ps3, but why does that mean you won't eventually get a ps4? I really don't understand you at all.

Get a PS3. It has a massive library of good games, with more still to come. The PS4 currently has jack shit worth playing, and it will be like that for awhile.

Why would you get a PS4 instead of a PS3? It costs more, its games cost more and there're only a few dozens games as opposed to hundreds.

Get a PS3 now and get a PS4 later.
They supplement each other, but there's no reason to own a PS4 yet.

Go with PS3. The PS3 just has way more games than PS4, obviously, and even some of he highly anticipated future releases are coming out for the PS3 (Destiny, KH3, and FFXV).

I've gotta say PS3 too.
I've owned my PS3 for five years, have a huge shelf full of great games for it (including some of my alltime favorites), there's tons more out there that have all dropped in price significantly, and there's plenty more coming out for it to be excited about.
I also own a PS4... I have Assassin's Creed IV, which is not a console exclusive and I beat long ago, the other games currently out for it don't really interest me, and there isn't anything substantial coming out for it until mid-march...

Yeah, PS3 is where it's at.
