At the moment, most games that you can get on the PS4 are being released on the PS3 as well, for example, I recently acquired Rayman legends, not to mention, South Park: The stick of truth, Thief and Watchdogs, all games that I really want, are being released on both consoles. So as much as I want a PS4, at the moment there is no reason to get one, not to mention I love my old, fat PS3. My advice: get a PS3 with the already great catalogue of games, and then wait a little bit down the line for a PS4, wait for it to drop in price and to get some really good games, that would be the best course of action at the moment in my humble opinion.

I voted Potato because what you should [i/]really[/i] be getting is a PS2.

If you want to twist my arm and say you already have a PS2, get the PS3. It's far cheaper and has more games. Pretty simple.

At this moment. If you don't own a Ps3 yes I say buy a Ps3. Why? Because so many great games are out on it. As much as I like the PS4 [don't own one yet] or the idea of having one. The games I want for it are not out yet so. I already been burned with the PS3 as buying at launch. 2 years of MEH games.. at the time the PS3 finally had some good games it was 400 instead of 600 euro. Freaking...

So PS3, having allot of great exclusives, is the place to go right now.
The Playstation 4 will get the games yes but it will take a while. And you won't want to hear us talk about the last of us if you only got a playstation 4. You want to enjoy the best of PS3 gaming right now.

If even you only would buy the top 20 games of the PS3 era you would have months of fun ahead of you. Probably a year or 2.

Why would you get a PS4 instead of a PS3? It costs more, its games cost more and there're only a few dozens games as opposed to hundreds.
I wrote earlier, it depends on how much gaming you do and how much money you have. If you tear through lots of games, get the PS3.

But the PS4 is a premium experience. I still have an love my PS3s, but on a 55" LED TV, compared to the PS4, its graphics are dated and jaggy.

The PS4 already has a decent library. With PS+, I've already placed 2 games on it and I got Assassin's Creed 4, which looks and plays fantastic. To compare and contrast, I played AC3 on the PS3 and it made me wonder if there as something broken.

Remote play on the Vita is pretty good on the PS4. Virtually no games work on the PS3. I heard that its slim 256 Meg of RAM just isn't enough to make it work.

The PS4 comes with a lot of social media abilities. I haven't really used them though.

The PS3 controller is good. PS4 is better.

If money is an object and you're playing on a smaller TV, getting a PS2 bundle on ebay is not a bad idea. I missed so many games that came out for that system. I still have one hooked up to a 42" LCD and it looks and plays OK. Same thing here as the argument between PS3 and 4: Do you have the money for a premium experience? Because it is pricey but there really is a difference.

I personally cannot go all the way back to PS1 though. I'm spoiled by dual analogue sticks and gameplay enhancements that started in Gen 6.

I would also like to take a moment and point out that this dilemma would not be happening if Sony had just decided to include backwards compatibility with the PS4, the jerks.
And then you'd be paying 700 bucks for a console. There's always a trade-off somewhere, pal. It's not cheap to pack in the hardware from a previous system along with the new.

Anywho, PS3 is more bang for your buck at this point. A large library with a few more decent releases still to come.
Compared to the PS4, you've only got a few crummy launch titles.

True, and if you want a lot of bang for the buck, this only makes sense.

But yesterday, I played some Uncharted 3 multi-player on PS3 and a free downloadable PS4 multi-player and the PS4 compared well. With PS+ I got Outlast and Resogun so far. I bought Assassin's Creed 4 and it is gorgeous.

If you don't need the huge, fantastic deal that is PS3, the PS4 is also a very worthwhile expense. It really is a generation ahead and the games are only going to get more plentiful and inexpensive. Looking forward to Infamous 3 next month.

Honestly, I'd pay extra so I could put my PS3 in the closet and just have the PS4 out, but I can't complain about that. But it would have been nice.

The PS4 is only getting better, I've got Don't Starve, Outlast, Resogun and Contrast just from the PS+; there is also Assassin's Creed IV and Killzone: SF, as well as Thief, the Order and Metal Gear Solid and whatever Final Fantasy is next.

But honestly, just get a PS3. The PS+ got me Bioshock Infinite, DMC, Remember Me, Borderlands 2, and there are loads of others. It has a fantastic library, and even though I have a PS4, I'm usually playing my PS3 nowadays (FFXIII-3: LR) more, because it actually has games out. And I'll probably be grabbing Dynasty Warriors next, and I'm still waiting for the Walking Dead Season 2. The PS3 has got it going on, and probably will for the next year.

I do keep the PS3 out, side by side with the PS4. While the PS4 does itself proud, the PS3 still has the gameplay and visuals that make it something I could advise someone get, even today.

If I were you I would personally also get a PS3 instead, reasons are simple.

1: Vast game library for each and every taste
2: Cheaper
3: its been tested thoroughly (unlike the PS4 thats only been out for a couple months, which is in my opinion one of the most important factors and the reason why Im waiting to get one.)

Long story short, if I were you Id get a PS3, get the games you want, beat them, and if backtracking is easily done etc etc, then sell your PS3 and get a PS4. Im personally going to keep my PS3 because it holds a special place in my heart (nerdlove) and it will remain next to my PS2 and PS1 for all eternity as one big happy family that I still, to this day, play (Yep..even the PS1).

You say you're planning to get a PS4 "down the line" - well, if that's the case, then my answer is this: get both.

Get a PS3 now. They're pretty damn cheap (particularly used).

And then get a PS4 later, when it has more games you want. I'm getting a PS4 this year because I want to play the Witcher 3 on it, but the longer you wait on the PS4, the cheaper it will get. You might be able to get a PS3 now and a PS4 later for the price you'd pay now for a PS4.

To go along with this, I've been looking at the library the PS3 offers and there are a surprising number of games that perk my interest (The Last of Us, InFamous, God of War, Journey, etc.)
Don't forget Uncharted. I didn't think it would be my thing but it's incredible, I'd really recommend it especally if you enjoy The Last of Us.

Currently, i dont think ps4 has enough to offer anyone to justify buying it now, the ps3 has a long and Established Library and if it already has games in it that interest you, id say go for it(i will note the ps3s stock of games started out slow Too)

I pre-ordered my PS4 in March of 2013. In Australia it cost $520. I only have time to play games for a couple of hours every few days, so the line up on PS4 is sufficient. Honestly if I had five hours every day the line up would be enough. Between Just Dance, Doki Doki Universe, LEGO Marvel, Outlast, Battlefield 4. Seriously dude, how much of a diverse line up would you need to be satisfied? Those are just the games that I play. In the next couple of months comes Dynasty Warriors, LEGO the movie, Metal Gear and more. Even if you are a gaming zombie, that doesn't eat, doesn't sleep, doesn't work, doesn't have any social interaction (except eating video games), there is a large enough current selection.
