Don't forget the 95 thesis, or England's rejection of the church of Rome, those were huge in shaping today's thoughts.

Well, the first one that springs to mind is the big bang, but lets not go there.

World War 1 &
World War 2

Yeah, like--Russian Revolution of 1917.
This. Also lets not forget one of the most important things to shape the western world, First Council of Nicaea, 325 AD.
Ah yeah! Good call.

Oh, and the Seven Years War! The first properly international war!

No! A very lonely no at the moment but still.

Ok... I admit I just misclicked. But at least it looks less rigged now.

As for topics - wars are boring! The less obvious cultural developments which require some analysis to uncover (enlightenment vs. religion!) are much more interesting and relevant for today than just reporting the fact that x men fought y men here leaving z poor souls dead. And the former often increased the number of z in the latter.

Joan of Arc and her monumental shattering of the so-called glass ceiling of Medieval Europe.

Also, the Iran Hostage Crisis. That was the most clear point at which the West was no longer a welcome guest in the region, and that no amount of diplomatic measures could override the fanaticism of the Ayatollah and his followers.

*notes down idea to steal at later date:)* You know you might want to set up a user-group around which people could discuss these ideas if you wish.

But a nice event might be Alexander the Greats huge conquering rampage.
