So I was thinking of getting new headphones recently and I personally like the clip on's because I am a sporty kinda guy and I hear that the in ear ones give you hearing problems [/pun]

So what do you prefer?

Out of ear, the ones that go in your ear get annoying over time (it feels like they burn).

I actually prefer the headphones with cups that go completely over your ears, just so it's obvious that I'm not listening to you.

I prefer out of ear, but they often make more noise for other people. I use standard iPod ones when in public otherwise I have big beefy out-of-ear ones.

I use ones that have been custom made to my ear canal on my motorcycle. Absolutely brilliant.

Out of ear. Earbuds are fine for a while, but then they start to irritate.

I never had problems with the inner ear ones. They blocked out more of the outside world, allowing me to turn the volume down to something a little kinder on the old drums. I suppose if your ears are filthy, but then again, science says that cleaning your ears is like pouring crude oil on Satan while he's having a lavabath.

I would probably go with either the standard iPod one's or the out of ear, mostly because they've seemed to work well for me, and I didn't really like the ones that were supposed to cancel sound, since they tend to get annoying on the ear.

I have these in-ear plugs now, and I absolutely love them. I travel a bit under two hours a day, and it's a delight that I don't have to listen to others people's chatter while listening to my favourite audio books. They really work well in making a world for yourself, your own place of peace and tranquillity. They aren't even that annoying to wear for extended periods of time, as long you have a couple that actually fits your ears properly.

The downfall of these things is that you can easily lose the rubber things, so you'll have to be careful with that. The one I have currently are setting a record for consecutive use without breaking. I usually take a month before somehow breaking headphones (either in-ear, normal, or headset-type), but with these I think I am lasting about 2 months al ready! Talk about return of investment (30 EUR). :)

In ear, better sound quality, easier to hear when in loud places and they almost never fall out, even when jumping around like an idiot.

Depends on the situation. The inner ear ones I took to Silverstone the other day to cancel out the massive F1 engines and they worked great, and they sound great too, but I have to keep pushing them in and they hurt after a while. Would much rather have good quality outer ear ones if I ever find any that do that and don't break after a couple of months

Standard because I have limited experience with the rest of them. Best go with what you like.

The in ear headphone get very annoying they fall out alot and may cause damage for you're ears if they're sensitive since you have to shive them deep in you're ear to keep them from falling out. I usually use the hesh Headphones from skull candies

I use Sony over-the-head Earphones, the sound is better and in ear/ipod earphones don't fit in my ear properly and feel uncomfortable.

Surely the standard iPod ones count as in ear headphones?

I've a lovely pair of Sennheiser in ear headphones for work, because they almost completely block out outside noise without me having to turn my noise up too loud. And I've got a pair of round the back Sennheiser headphones for running, cycling etc because they're super comfortable and they don't fall off if I start going too fast, unlike my other headphones.
